Question Where can I adopt/rescue a Bolognese?

Does anyone know where in the entire US I can either adopt or rescue a young Bolognese?

I'm desperate to have one in the house, but cannot afford the roughly two grand that breeders usually ask for.

I have searched all over the web, and looked on every adoption site I could find. There are no Bologneses available.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

HI Sonata and welcome aboard! Why do you want this particular breed? and have you done your research on this breed regarding it traits needs pluses and minuses etc this will save a lot of head aches later on. Be very careful if you see one advertised cheap there's probably a BAD reason why it's cheap like a puppy mill or pet shop so steer well clear from these

Here's a link to the parent club web site. Perhaps you could contact them to see if they know of any rescue dogs that might be available. You might also contact the indivisual breeders listed and let them know you're interested in a rescue dog.

Default Thanks

Wow, thanks for all the welcomes, you guys. I appreciate your being such a friendly bunch.

Yes, I have done extensive research, talked with breeders, and even babysat a Bolognese for four days. I fell head over heels for him. Of course no breed is absolutely perfect in every teeny-tiny way, but this one truly seems like the best breed for me and my situation. (And besides, every time I see a picture of one, I melt.)

I know about the national association, and spoke yesterday with its secretary. She doesn't know of any for adoption, but we're going to stay in touch.

And yes, I also know to be wary of those for sale with low prices. Yesterday I saw one advertised for $400! How do I check out the seller? What questions do I ask? I'm not sure how to evaluate the integrity of him/her.

Thanks, you all!!

Surperb stuff Sonata I am glad you are doing extensive research on the breed you want love it Well the national association is good and the fact they are staying in touch with you is great But I would air on the side of caution especialy if it seems a little too cheap On the other hand I would insist seeing the dog and if it's a pup I would like to see not only the living conditions but the health of the pup/dog and see both parents (are these pedigree dogs?) I would want all upto date records for vets and any registration papers if some of these can't be proved then I wouldn't bother as another one will be available from some where else Don't rush in to this as you know it's life time commitment But I am impressed at what have been doing well done

Do keep us informed on any progress!!!

Awww, thanks, Bigboy.

Since I'm searching nationally, I probably won't have the advantage of being able to see the living conditions or the dog in person. ("In animal"?)

The seller claims these are pedigree dogs.

Other than getting copies of their papers, what kinds of questions would you ask? Since it's long-distance, we only have phone, pix, and video.

Thanks!

You are welcome What I am saying does the national association knows some on who is advertising one for $400 or is this a ad you have seen else where? If it the second answer then don't just take some ones word for it! What is the national association and how do they help? Is it a bit like a shelter or what?

Sonata if you will email or PM me the ad or website of the individual that has the puppy for sale for 400 I will be happy to look at it and give you my opinion.

There are more puppy scams and puppy mills out there than there are legitimate breeders and it would be heartbreaking if you were to get caught up in one of those messes.

Please bear in mind, the unscrupulous will tell you whatever they think you want to hear and never feel guilty for even a millisecond.

If you'd rather not email me, please at least look up information about puppy scams. including online puppy scams on the internet.

Good luck whatever you decide.
