Default $2000 root canal

This morning I had a meeting with a woman regarding the educational placement of her child. As we were talking the chat turned to dogs and she told me that her sister-in-law's dog is recovering from a root canal procedure for which the bill came to just over $2000. The dog had broken it's lower canine tooth and needed emergency endodontic care, however, the costs were not covered by insurance (ouch!). I checked the policy I have for Chessie when I got home and while certain dental procedures are covered, endodontics isn't one of them unless part of larger surgical problem. In fact, I had no idea there were so many types of root canal procedures performed on dogs or of the prices. This got me to thinking...do many members have separate dental insurance for your dogs? Are dental procedures such as root canal and periodontal surgery covered under your dog's health policy?

OUCH and double OUCH! Thats expensive!
We don't have health insurance for the doggies so if it comes to that, we'll have to pay out of pocket.
