Angry Sore toe!

I have a 3 yr lab. Just over 3 and a half weeks ago he became seriously sick. He had emergency surgery to remove a stone that he had ingested. The surgery was very expensive and even though I am covered by insurance they still withheld 300 which we had to pay. (That's another long story) Surgery and recovery going well but my husband also had a stroke during this time. Toby, my lab, whilst out having gentle exercise slipped on wet grass and has now hurt his toe. I am besides myself with worry and guilt because I just cannot afford any more. He is able to take his weight on his foot (front) but still limps intermittently. I am resting him and giving him pain meds prescribed by vet for his last surgery. It is definitely his toe and not a joint issue. I feel sick with guilt and worry, what with my husband and now this. I feel like such a bad dog owner even after having insurance etc, (supreme) and still not able to afford to take him to get this checked. Is rest the way forward with this. Please don't chastise me with your comments just couldn't take any hassle. Feeling bad enough as it is.

Welcome to the forum. Rest does sound like a good idea. You are not a bad dog owner. We all go through times that are hard and money is tight. If it's just a sprained toe, you might call the vet and ask for suggestions. Phone calls are free and they might give you a simple suggestion such as taping the toe to the foot to keep it immobile like you would do if you had a sprained toe. Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks for your replies. Glad to say Toby has made a good recovery today. Back to his mischievous self again. I am so relieved.

I suspect the 300 that you had to pay was a excess charge how ever the higher the excess usually means a cheaper premium. Was this a excess charge? With out insurance the full bill would have had to be paid and vets bills aren't cheap at the best of times
