No Cody is not a pure bred Husky but still a nice dog all the same Thank you for rescuing him from a uncertain future Like Ama says it's going to take time for his confidence to come back. So for now no eye contact and it has to be on his terms so his trust in humans will come back Leave the crate door open toss some treats (with out looking/stroking/talking to him) near to the door of the crate and gradualy get the treats a little further away from the open crate in to the room, you must stay completly still and do nothing eventually get some treats a little nearer to you and again no contact what so ever It will be hard not to talk to him or pet him etc but he has had a bad time in his past so needs time to adjust There is no quick and easy fix! Patience is must on this Good luck and please keep us posted on his progress.

Same here. Will be looking forward to more photos when that becomes possible.

Thanks all! And thanks for the tip BigBoy, I'll start that today. I definitely know there's no quick and easy fix! I rescued an abused horse about three years ago and it took him until very recently to be comfortable enough to be trained, still there's just nothing in the world quite like getting a needy animal and getting to know him/her as he/she gets to know you. Any ideas what he might be mixed with? I really don't care about breed at all; it's just a matter of curiosity because I've never seen a dog that looked like him before.

I read about a third of the calming signals book last night. This morning I let my other three dogs (who came from the same situation, and one is a GSD mix who was also called "vicious") outside and brought Cody down from our warm barn where he spent the night (he'll be a house dog, but he's never been a house dog before and he was so much in shock last night that we decided to give him a warm and quiet place to be instead of bringing him into the playful and often loud house), and we put them all where they could see each other and communicate, though with a chain link barrier to begin with, just in case. The GSD walked over to the fence and immediately sat down in front of Cody, faced sideways and yawned. Absolutely adorable and I wouldn't have known what he was doing without reading the book. Cody's out and about now exploring his new home.

Excellent news Lappdog The thing is with the other 3 dogs around this now could really help the healing process in Cody if the rest of the 'pack' is calm then the mirrored behaviour should show it's self in Cody eventually great work Lappdog Thanks for the update!!!!

Well here's more of a body shot on him. Any more thoughts? I'm just curious. He's really started to settle down now and is starting to look genuinely happy when we talk to him. Gave him a pig ear to play with and he picked it up and pulled it into his "safe spot."

Cody certainly looks happier in this shot! His eyes were so sad in the first one.
