Default Shelter dog - breed guess?

Not sure what to think on this guy - my mind goes to the general Pointers - English Pointer or GSP....but he's not quite "right" for either of them. I keep thinking there should be another breed I'm coming up with, but I just can't put my finger on it. Very much so a scent hound, he'll follow his nose no doubt. His tail was docked, just not much. About 60 lbs??

Thoughts?

Have you heard anymore about what he might be? I'm curious.. I can see where you say GSP in there..

I think maybe a black lab? Those ears are very labby to me.

what a beautiful, alert face and yeah, my best guess would be pointer/lab but I'm not much good at this.

OTOH, could just be a less-than-perfect English Pointer.

you know what - I realized after I just typed that - his head reminds me so much of my Dal's head. She had that same head shape and ear shape.

IMO the dog is a purebred GSP--most likely a decendent of the danish imports who had much more white in their lines such as Moesgaard,Tiptop or Checkmate field trial lines. The difference is that this dog is young and isn't as well muscled as an adult GSP in field condition.

The two dogs that can be found by checking the links above on another post are NOT examples of English pointers but are in fact purebred German Shorthaired Pointers.

The body style, coloring, head and tail carriage are completely different on English pointers than those of the GSP. The EP's head is much blockier, the stop is much more pronounced and the flews are fuller, which would be a serious fault in a GSP. Tail carriage is generally higher and curled over the back on the EP while the GSP carries their tail behind them and it's constantly moving while on the hunt, only holding it higher when actually working a bird. EP's rarely have the dark liver colored coat along with such dark ticking. Their coloring is generally more in the range of lemon, brown or black, but rarely the true heavily ticked liver color of the GSP.

I can post the urls to some examples of field bred lighter colored (lots of white) GSP's if anyone would like to see them..
