Default Not sure how to answer...

... when people ask what kind of dog he is. I've looked at Black and Tan Coonhound pictures and he certainly has the coloring, size and personality description... but obviously he isn't.

I just tell people he's a hound/lab mix. People tell me he looks like a rottie/GSD mix.

He bays like a hound-- it's very distinct. His nose goes straight to the ground when we're on walks, with his tail up high. So I'm guessing some kind of hound.

Our vet guessed bloodhound/rottie mix because of his coloring.

What do you think?

I see hound first.. what a cutie he is.
I have a mixed dog, when people ask I just tell them he's a border collie cross, but in the end it doesn't really matter to me!

Predominantly coon hound or blood hound. He looks very much like a B&T, but his ears are a little short

I love it.

We live in an apartment and during walks, lots of people see him and pull their dogs the other direction for fear of the "thing" that will "eat" their dog. LOL This big guy is the sweetest, gentless dog I've ever met.

However, he has been getting me some fun guy attention.

Thanks Firstluvarty. And I agree, in the end it doesn't matter. It sure is fun, though, hearing what other people come up with. A guy at Petsmart told me he looked almost pure bluetick coonhound.

I would just say he's a hound mix. He's definitely hound and he is definitely very handsome
People almost always say rottie mix with markings like that, but so many combinations of dogs come out with similar markings and have no rottie in there. He could very well be a rottie/hound x, who knows Just stick with hound mix.
He is beautiful!

I'd be tempted to say he might be a hound/mastiff mix simply because he has a look quite similar to the Brazilian mastiff (which is a bloodhound/mastiff cross). Not to say he is a Brazilian Mastiff, however. Just that it might be a similar cross.

He has some features similar to Ming that people sometimes point to as possibly being Mastiff.

Whichever it is, he's gorgeous.

Great thing about dogs - their genetics are so mixed up through the centuries that who the heck really knows. My husband saw a picture the other day that I had commented on in FB and he said, "Where did you take this picture of Ming?" It wasn't Ming, and it wasn't a dog even remotely related. No Shar Pei. But she looked spit 'n image of Ming. Her nose was ever so slightly more smooshed than his. Just barely. You'd have thought though that they were littermates. Turns out she also went to the same school my daughter went to but her Ming-look-alike was rescued further East. Just weird the small world we live in. Anyway - just really hard to judge breeds because the canine genes are so malleable
