Default My new Min Pin

I,m really new to owning a small toy breed.I,ve had Irish Wolfhounds and Afghan hounds in my past but wanted to power down sorta speak.I got my 7 mth old girl yesterday from a guy and girl who were both busy and going back to school.Heck the poor dog never had a solid name .Taz or Pepper? Not sure what to call her? Anyways she is hiding under my couch since last nite .Nervous and scared I,m guessing? I was told let her come to me so that's what I,m doing so I don,t make things worse. She's use to cats ,other dogs which I don,t have but my boyfriend does and I don,t see him much .So any help would be so appreciated as to how I can make her feel more relaxed.
Thanks

Hi Tony Well something is wrong it could just be the new enviroment
she is in and she will need timeto 'adjust!!' But what you coud do is toss some treats in the room and she is she comes out from hiding, don't call her out let her come out in her time) When she does say good girl in a nice happy voice high pitcheda and every time she eats a treat even try bit's of chicken these are high value treats and should help
Has she had any vaccinations since she was 8 weeks old and has she been de wormed too?? Most important if you could get any health records
om her previous owners this would be good!

Unfortunately she only has had her 1 st set and been dewormed.I,m going to be making an appt to get her 2 nd and 3 rd set done asap and then go get her fixed. She,s a wreck and shaking like crazy .I will not be touching her incase she fear bites. But I will try the chicken .She hasn,t eaten last nite or today but water is dwn for her. They didn,t leave her crate and I only have a Huge one .Nothing wrong she was just dumped and they left her here .Yes I think the key word is time ..Heck she didn,t even have a proper name .

What a shame for her. Does she show any excitement at all, like for going out for a walk, or did she not get them either.

Bigboy's suggestion with the treats is a good one. And routine. Wishing you luck with her.

Welcome Tony. Bless you for taking her in. She's just scared because so much unfamiliar stuff has been happening to her. Patience and as Bb said some high value treats will help.

Wow!!! Thats great news I don't think with only 1 vaccination she will be fully protected against Parvo and distemper and other nasty canine illneses so I wouldn't take her out till she is fully upto date with her vaccs it just isn't worth the risk take it one step at a time. Also see what commands she does know like sit/stay etc etc if she sits straight away then good but I feel this poor pup has had no training atall. Some people should never own a dog like that boy and girl you met bad and sad. But great work so far Please keep us updated and thank you

Tony, welcome to the Forum! Give your pup some time to adjust to her new home, and she should be fine. Once she adjusts, start training her on the basic commands. She needs some time to feel comfortable in her new home. Everything else will come with time.

Dee while this may be so I think there has been some neglect and abuse to this pup from her previous owners, but looks like the pup is coming round pretty quickly to her new surrondings So yes time is a great healer too
