Loved those youtube videos!

Chloe update:

Loves sleeping with me and she does "burrow"! This morning I rolled over and she pounced onto my chest wagging her tail and giving me kisses which made me so happy! She starting to come out of her shell. She likes to sleep in between my partner and me and is happy as a lark to be so snug. I worry that her sleeping with me is causing her to be too dependent on me... she hasn't been wanting to walk outside lately, so I have to pick her up and carry her out.

Trying to switch her food, but she keeps picking out her old food and leaving the new food! Silly girl.

Any resources for a front clip harness for itty bitty dogs? All the ones I look at are too big and the ones designed for little dogs are "comfort harnesses" which I don't like. I don't like traditional harnesses that encourage pulling.

I'm going to try the holistic method for the cherry eye- I generally try to be as holistic as possible with my animals and work closely with a holistic vet. The method is to put a type of lubricant in the eye and massage the eye to pop the third eyelid back into place. It's temporary but If you consistently do it along with giving supplements to aid in strengthening the connective tissue, it will eventually become permanent. Has anyone else done this or heard of someone doing this?

Also, considering sticking with Chloe. All the other names don't really fit her! And Chloe is another name for the greek goddess Demeter which fits my little theme with Athena the border collie and Pan the cat. I might try to use clicker training to get a more positive response out of her name.

Thanks everyone for such wonderful support and advice!

Kris, then Chloe it is!!!! I am so happy that she is finally coming out of her shell. She just needed some time to adjust, and it sounds like she's doing great. It's amazing what a little bit of love and care can do for a neglected dog. Don't worry about her becoming to attached because she sleeps in bed with you. Chi's are very devoted to their owners, reguardless if they sleep in your bed or not. I love my early morning wake up calls from Scooter. All is see is a "lump" of covers moving, and out he comes. There is nothing better than waking up to a wagging tail, and kisses.
As far as her not wanting to walk out side... just keep encouraging her, and put her on leash if you have to.
I use a confort harness for Scooter. I have had issues finding a small enough one, though. Your best bet is to take her to a major pet chain that carries a lot of product, and have someone help you fit her for one.
Let us know how you make out with the cherry eye. I do know that surgery will correct it, but I'm not familiar with the holistic version of correction.
I am so happy that you and your partner took a chance on Chloe. She's now has a happy, loving, forever home.

Lovely update, my little Roly is a burrower too, and very good at it. With Arny who is so very much larger, and not very good a burrowning, I'd get a cold nose on my neck in the middle of the night with him trying to get under the covers. Now he's too old to sleep on the bed for fear of him falling off in the night.

It's good to hear that Chloe is settling in!

When you get a harness, you probably want to be sure you can fit a coat or sweater under or over it. If over, watch out for where the leash will go.

Rosie's not a morning dog. I have to drag her out of bed, and she's always like, "Five more minutes!" Then she goes into her crate while I get dressed, and I have to drag her out of the crate.

Kikopup, of the videos, has a Border Collie, too. She and kiko the chihuahua do tricks together.

Kris great update and it's good to know that finaly she is showing her personailty I am with Dee on the encouraging her to go out So my advice is less picking up when you want to take her out for a walk! Nipper was exactly the same as a pup, but I nipped this behaviour in the bud You could try this a high value treat with a nice happy tone of voice and just get a command word for it like walkies or come on! Plenty of praise too then reward the good behaviour, to continue to keep picking her up will not help matters and may come to expect it more and more! So it's nice to let her have her own independence but through genle persuasion Keep up the good work Kris and let us know how you get on and with Chloe's cherry eye condition

Another update!

So I feel bad changing my mind again but I don't think Chloe will really feel like she's part of our family until her name is changed. So I've come up with a better list of names. All opinions or additions are welcome!!

Chai (like chai latte- subtle warm spice)
Mushroom (or shroom for short. With her bulging eyes and her habit of walking around with her tongue stuck out, she kinda looks like she's done too many drugs... lol)
Bean Sprout. Bean for short. She's tiny but doesn't seem to fit into traditional tiny dog names.
Prudence. Pru or prudy for short. From the Beatles song "Dear Prudence". When I listened to the lyrics I really thought of her. So now I sing the song to her. She likes it when I sing to her

Everything has been great! Found a front-clip harness small enough and ordered it along with everything needed for her Cherry eye. Finally got the owner to hand over the vet records (ugh). Taking her today to the groomer to have her nails trimmed. She doesn't like me touching her feet and I don't want to be the bad person right now so I'm going to let other people do that :-p

Spent a lot of the past few days studying for midterms and she was such the sweet study companion (except when she fell asleep on my Chemistry book- which is bigger than she is).

I'm trying to get her to interact with the other dogs more. She doesn't mind them, but if they get on the couch, she goes to the other end. She tries to avoid them but I kinda wish she would like them more. I guess it will just take time.

Getting her outside in the morning is getting harder! She doesn't like cold mornings! lol

Trying to post pictures today of her!

Great update and great pictures! I like Bean for her name. I wouldn't be to concerned about her and the other dogs. Small dogs, know they're small, and they know they can get hurt. It is not unusual for a samll dog to move out of the way, of a larger dog. I have 2 collies and a Chi. The Chi still after all these years, will move out of the way to avoid any mishaps. I guess that makes them pretty smart little dogs.
