Default We just got a new peke, and need help.

Hi there, My wife and I have 6 cats and now 3 dogs, one of which has
just moved in. The little puppy we got is a pekingese, named Muffin.
She is a very beautiful little puppy, but unfortunately she is very sad right
now. She is almost 1 year old, but her previous owners (close friends of mine)
had to give her away, because they were moving into a house that would
not allow her. She was in a very happy home before, and now that she's with
us she is in very good hands. She has only been with us 3 days, which I know is very short and expected, but there are some problems I am looking for some advice with, that can help her become a happy little puppy.

1) how can we make Muffin feel loved, and not be so afraid of all of us?
2) how can we teach the other two dogs(silky terrier, welsh springer), to accept her as their friend, and not feel like we don't love them anymore.
3) she trusts my wife a lot more than she does me, and I want her to know that i'm ok too. how can i earn her trust?
4) she appears to have something in her eye, almost looks like a little booger on her pupil. is that normal?
5) we know when she has to go do her business, but when she goes outside, she get's scared and stays in one spot. what should we do about that?
6) our other dogs like to be tucked in under a fleecy at night when we go to bed, is it ok to tuck Muffin in or is that not good?

Hello and welcome to the forum. Great to have you with us. I do hope you'll post pics of all your critters. We love pics around here.

I think it will just take some time for most of these things to sort themselves out. It doesn't sound like you've got any aggression or territorial issues going on so that's a very good thing. Just give them some time.

I'd take each dog out individually for long walks & spend some quality time with each individually. The exercise will do them good too. A tired dog is a happy dog & they aren't as likely to be stressed. I wouldn't push the issue of tucking the newbie in under the covers as that could create some territorial issues.

A vet visit is in order for the eye issue. I can't advise on that.

Hi infinitus and welcome to the forum.
How kind of you to give this Peke a home!
Three days is nothing, and of course the poor dog has no idea why she is now in a new home. I would get down on the floor with her and play-this usually helps them understand that you are their friend.
It will take time for her confidence to build-there is no substitute for that. I think if your first two dogs are well-behaved and well-adjusted, and the Peke was as well, given time and patience things will sort themselves out.
And I agree about the vet visit for the 'eye booger!'

Your new pup just need lots of love and patience. In six months she will be happy and confident. I have a Peke and I love the breed. They are really characters, very independent, but loving. I've had Pekes most of my life.
