Default Email Notifications URL Too Long!

Hi I have noticed there has been some changes to the email notification URL's in some email clients it's too long and when I cursor down to the URL I find the cursor does not go round the whole URL meaning when I click on it I can't explore the noification. Not sure why in the new URL's after the topic number say for eg; topic=354678=newpost.html it's now topic=345678then the tile of the post=newpost.html in the older style of email notifications they was no title of the post. 1 Is there any need for the title of the post to be in the email notification as it's already in the email that is sent to you so there's no need for dupication of the tilte Please can you change back to the older style of email notifactions? Thank you ATB

Hi is any one there please I think I make a valid point in duplcaiting this info in the clickable URL there's no need for it as this is already indicated when the email is opened. If my email provider has major problems (access) as in the past I won't be able to use my email notifactions to get access to subscribed posts. Thank you ATB

Hi! I am not sure there is an easy solution to this but I will continue to investigate. Most email providers (and email clients) will simply embed the URL in a way that will not truncate it. I am not sure why yours is different in this context.

Still looking into it!

Thanks for your patience

Hi You could switch back to the older style email notifications as in the email it already tells you who has just replied along with what the disscusion is on about and the sub part of forum it's located at.! If not prehaps put the URL on 2 lines and not one long line? Thanks fpr continuing to look at this for me! Much apprieciated ATB

Unfortunately the old style of URLs is dictated at a site level - rather than at a notification level. I don't think we can customize it only for the email notification - but I will look into it!

Why did we make this decision in the first place? Search Engine Optimization. Unfortunately, in today's day and age, most sites have resorted to word-based URLs in order to give search engines more context. This is not something we can ignore. The change had to be made. In the 6 years+ of running communities, this is the first time I have ever had anyone with indirect issues as a result of it. I will do my best in resolving it, but I honestly can't promise it will happen.

Just out of curiosity though, why not just visit DogForum.net first and then visit the post from there? Not sure how you are setup - but this is always an alternative for you when your email is out.

Also - you may want to contact the email client provider and ask them why on earth they have not updated their software

Thanks again for your patience!

It's a difficult one I know and have seen some Google entries not too many at the momement! As for visiting dogforum (directly) I have problems with remembering me after login depending on where I navigate on Dogforum some sections at the top of the page tell me I am logged in while other sections say 'Welcome Guest' and then of course there's the problem of me checking what replies i have recentley have had, that's why I use the email notifcation route as it takes me directly to a thread I have subscribed to! As for updating the software it's not happening as Netgem ( the manufactures) have taken away all support for the Netgem I-Player about 2 years ago. I can send you a email with a screen grab of my problem via the alternative email client if you think this will help you? Thanks for trying to find a fix for this problem ATB
