Default Links Board?

I'd love to see dogforum.org include a board that includes links to books, products, health & nutrition info, home remedies, training, or whatever so that members can comment [good or bad] on their experiences & share information they find.

Just a suggestion ...

Is there no one out there that thinks this could be a helpful way to share?

I just saw this today, maybe at the time you posted it, it kind of got ignored

In any case, it is a good suggestion KatzNK9 ...maybe it isn't getting any feedback because some of the members are used to posting links for such things in a lot of the threads that are created on those kind of subjects (health,products,training,food,etc.).

I see a lot of links for all sorts of things in the posts themselves from forum members.

Give it sometime though, your suggestion might catch on

I was just thinking that if they were all located in one spot, with appropriate thread titles, they'd be a good source of reference for people to seach or refer to down the road when they need specific info or have someone with a request about "what to do", etc.

Glad I'm not alone in thinking this might be a good idea. There may be forum rules or issues that could be compromised if used improperly by spammers so I'd understand if the idea gets nixed. It could add a substantial amount of work for forum moderators. But, I do think that it could be an invaluable method of sharing information.

Whenever possible, we would like to host as much high quality material on our site as possible and to keep our members here. While it is perfectly acceptable to point members to an off-site resource when similar information cannot be found on our site, a links board would divert a lot of traffic from the site. For the time being, let's focus on creating as much top notch content on the site as possible and limiting links to providing additional information when helping other members with their problems and issues.

Perfectly understandable! I hadn't thought of that reason "why not" ... but I have to agree it's a good one.

I don't want to play devil's advocate (oh well I do actually I love it LOL) but there is the matter of copyright - and plagarism

you are only allowed to copy a certain percentage of material which appears in an article on the web, and even then only with the owners written permission - if its for educational purposes there is usually no problem, e.g. universities, etc.

What I am saying is that we need to be careful about what we copy and paste, particularly if it is academic material. We must always cite the author etc.

Absolutely! By no means do we encourage or even permit direct copies from other sites. Should we become aware of any copywrited material improperly posted on our site, we will delete it immediately. Limited quoting of off-site material is permitted so long as proper credit is given to the author/owner. What I was getting at is if we have a good thread or FAQ on a topic, members should be directed to that resource first before being sent to another site with similar information.
