Default Need a FAQ made by an expert

I am posting this here rather than in FAQ section so more will see it.
Tip and hints for owners of older dogs.
Lucy is still having occasional accidents (peeing) in the house. I know what to buy now to get these spots out. She won't lie there once there is an acident.
I would like to have others opinions and experiences with this. We are her forever family no matter how things become.
Thanks
techie

Hi techie, I've moved this to site suggestions.

Not only do I happen to agree with you, I think a certain Forum Director I know has been secretly working on just this FAQ.

Techie, here is a good link I found most interesting at I have Gino n Girle going to be 8 next month and it scares me life without them. This might give some ideas of how, when, why, etc.

When my terrier mix got older and lost bladder control, I rigged up a diaper system for him. I got female doggie shorts for when female dogs go into heat. I got the shorts from Petsmart. I folded up an old tee shirt and also put in a sanitary napkin in it. I also had to extend it out from the shorts to cover everything as my terrier mix was a boy (the shorts are designed for a girl). After messing around with it for some weeks, I got a leak proof diaper system that allowed my boy to live indoors and happily for another year.

We tried the pills for incontinence, but they didn't work with my boy.

When April was older she became incontinent at times. She was put on hormone tabs a few times which worked to stop it. I had discovered that she was allergic to wheat products so no more dog kibble or toast etc. When Purina brought out an oat based kibble she was ok. Before that she lived on raw chicken bones with a little tinned food that didn't have wheat in it.

There's lots of information here
http://www.dogmobility.com/

You can get proper dog nappies http://www.dog-nappy.co.uk/

When our old rough collie hurt his back and his back legs became paralysed, we got him one of these http://www.k9-carts.com/

My view, you keep the dog going as long as they get some enjoyment out of life. Laddie loved his wheelchair and still pulled himself about on walks, sniffed things and chased his favourite toys and we just accepted his incontinence until he no longer seemed to want to get up and play.

I reckon the dog tells you when they don't find life fun anymore, you just need to be able to see the signs.
