I personally don't see the use or point for this. To me, it doesn't matter whether you're a male or female, and having post bits to announce it seems meaningless.

I like to know and I don't like to post my pic. But it's not a huge deal if I don't know. Male v. female has caused problems for me on other groups. People imagine what you are regardless. So even pointing out that I'm happily married, female, and only marginally attractive won't prevent someone from thinking I'm an amazingly gorgeous woman who is ready for... At least, it didn't in another group I was on. :P

I like to know just so I don't screw up and say, "you're a great dog mom!" only to be told, "NO! I'm a Dog Dad!" So I try not to make a commitment either way.

I understand your point of view, KCat, but what about referring to them as a "Dog Parent"? It's a nice neutral alternative. c:

Well, in any cased this post bit thing is ultimately up to the staff, it might be useful. ^_^

When looking at suggestions we take into account whether the feature being requested is typical for dog forums and if it is not, how it adds to our community and makes us special.

Certainly we do appreciate all input from members as to how we can make our community more enjoyable. Gender icons are not generally used on dog forums. I strongly suspect that if we were to implement this feature that many members would not take advantage of it. I'd like to reveal also that one of our tricks in identifying spambots is that the spambots automatically enter "Man" into the first available profile field assuming that we do use gender icons.

So unless more members clamor for it, I don't see this feature being implemented anytime soon, I hope this is not a disappointment.

Oh yeah. There are workarounds.

And it's a really low priority. After all, people lie. My birthdate on another forum is like Jan. 1 2007. Something like that. I don't like giving out every bit of info myself.

so it's a big shrug to me. Nice to know but not critical and not reliable.
