Default Member Age in Profiles

Can I suggest that it be compulsery for member to put there age in there profile.

I am on many sites forums that ask this, even one ask for you first name as well or you can't join.

I see no problem with people knowing my age, offiously I can see how it can dangerous for younger members, so maybe they could say under 16 or something like that.

I sometimes find knowing how old people are can realy help, exspshaly giving training advice.

what do you think

This question comes up every so often. I agree with you that it would be very helpful sometimes to know whether the person behind the post is an adult or not to know how best to respond. So far the direction we have gone on this forum has been influenced by two things.

One is that because of internet predators, we do not want to draw attention to younger members and potentially put them in danger. So we have avoided having anything that mentions age and even remove or edit posts that draw attention to the age of young members.

The other is that we have no way of knowing how old someone really is so they can put whatever they want on their profile and it may or may not be correct.

Skunkstripe Is right. Anyone can put whatever age they want but it wouldn't mean it's true. Aso, making exceptions for those under 16 would point out the fact that they are just younsters and predators could follow them around.
Knowing someone's age doesn't concern me when I read posts or answer them.I read and post to try to help and to learn, doesn't matter how old the poster is.

I think it best to have junior members, senior members something like that. I would not want my age up there, ha ha. Do not truly care, but so many youth it could draw a nutty person to find the youth.

It is not for me to decide however so whatever I go with the flow honey...

I think with me I like to know cos if the post comes across immature, I like to know if there a younster that can't realy help it that much, or an adult thats just being stupied. I certainly helps me deside what level of telling off there going to get if they need a good talking to.

I think it's pro boards that you have to me over 13 to join any of there forums and agrea to there code of conduct saying so. But you are right there no way of police it, thoughthe amount of times I seen youngsters finaly cave and confess there real age, maybe there conshous gets to them. Oviously as soon as they amite there real age they are deleted from the forum.

I proberly don't care who knows my age (its in my profile) cos I at the age where I to old to be predated but not old anothe to feel enbarised by it. lol

I don't mind putting my birthdate. I would have to keep changing my age every year!
Just lazy I guess!

I think maybe Sheplovr has a good point...junior member and senior member, that way the younger people still are protected.

Vixen - I don't think we're here to judge a person and tell them off or give them a good talking to according to their ages. The point is to learn from one another and respect everyone's point of view. We should be as polite and tactful as we can when disagreeing with someone, not "give them a good talking to"....lol.

I know some really old 18 year olds and some extremely young 80 year olds. Unfortunately age doesn't always bring maturity.

But I'll go with the flow but if the reason for adding age is to assist the reader in engaging with the author of the post wouldn't educational qualifications be just as relevant? NO, I think that would be off the wall - what do other members think?

Unfortunately, we don't have the benefit of non-verbal communications or other cues and it is easy to misjudge and misread postings. In addition there are also cultural differences - long live diversity!
