I second that! I've seen that a lot of old threads are being revived, with little or no helpful information being added.

I disagree. I don't see it going well. It wont change anyones opinions on the subject and it will just be used as a Bash All BYBS! section. Because you can only educate people who want to be educated, and most of those who come on here, do not want to be- as you KNOW that most of what we say goes in one ear and out the other. But by telling them straight up our opinion about it, it may actually let them know that people out there do disagree, and they may take it the wrong way (However nice we are, people who disagree with one another you have a very rare chance that it wont get ugly in the "war of opinions!"

Dog Forum doesn't have a breeding section and I don't think it ever will as this forum is definitly pro-rescue and for the few breeding questions there may be there is a puppies section, health care and of course general dog disscusion to post questions in

Do you guys think there is any way that we could address the issue of responsible breeding? Some people are simply determined to breed, and no amount of dissuasion will deter them. For those people, wouldn't it be better to educate them on the proper steps and procedures rather than continue to hammer away at them? I'm not condoning the practice, but like with so many other things, it seems like if you can't deter people from taking certain actions, it's better to ensure that they're informed going in.

Thoughts?

A lot of people, if not the complete majority of the members, try this (Educate the possibly future breeders through 'genetics talk, health testing talk, hereditary issues being passed on, etc etc etc etc etc.. I cant even continue to say how many etc there are on this one) as hard as they can. But then they end up with responses such as "I don't care about your opinion" when it wasn't opinion being passed, but advice on how the best way is to go about the process. I just think that perhaps a 'closed' section where no one can post, with the information written on the VERY best ways to go about breeding, and no cut-corners in this description. That way when people have questions, we can simply post a link to the firect thread, and/or quote it, and it will be seen more as advice rather than just random peoples opinions. I say this because opinion seems to go in one ear these days and out the other, so if the advice isn't seen as 100%, then no one listens. Just my thoughts on the subject.

Edited to add:
In this section, make SURE to post the probable costs that go in to such things. When people notice how much money really goes in to doing the best breeding possible- that is what seems to change most peoples minds. Also talk about things such as how either dog can cget an illness through breeding, much like humans and STD's And birthing issues, etc etc.

I'm all for educating wannabe breeders, but I honestly don't think it's a good idea to dedicate a specific section to breeding. Not unless the intent is to purposely attract even more wannabe breeders than we get now.

If we have a section devoted to breeding it will provide the false impression that our members in general condone breeding by the average pet owner. Baiting the trap, so to speak!

It's also my opinion that breeding sections are better left to breed specific forums. Experienced, active, ethical breeders IMO are far better equipped to offer guidance and information than the average pet owner in a general dog forum. They're current on the specific health testing within the breed, ongoing health studies, breed standard, natural ability testing etc.
