Default Reputation points?

Can we give reputation points to people? It seems like we can but I'm not really sure. I did try giving one to someone who wrote a post that I thought was excellent and it seemed like it worked but then I couldn't find anything about them in the FAQ section.

Thanks for the suggestion. I checked the members profile but I didn't see anything indicating this.

Everyone can (and should!) give REPs as described in those guidelines. There are a lot of great, helpful members on the site, and acknowledging their contributions with REPs is strongly encouraged.

Thumbs up

I tell you what I really like about the concept of reputation points is that hopefully we will not have these stupid arguments about how having a gazillion posts somehow qualifies you to give advice or to treat newbies in a certain way. Honestly, I do not want to name the site, but I used to get so fed up with members accusing other members of making 'fluff' posts (like replying to a post where someone had posted a picture of their dog with "Oh, isn't he cute") just to get to the next category.
Anyway, good idea!

Currently, reps don't count for much here, though that will likely change a little in time. A high rep score should indicate a member has put in a lot of time and effort to help members of this community. Once the new rep system is unveiled, steps will be taken to assure rep points are given only for valid reasons. Improper reps will be removed, and some negative consequences will result.

As long as reps = thanks for help, all will be good.

It was nothing personal. A site-wide change caused everyone's rep to increase or decrease based on the new parameters. It should be all leveled out now. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

I just love to help and advise people in need and do not worry about rep points. It is helping those that counts more so I feel. So many come on for that very reason also.
