What is a Community Director?

I have been working on the site now, and I figure an explanation of my role in the site is long overdue. My primary goal/responsibility is to ensure that the needs of the community are being met.

On a daily basis, I read each and every post on the site and take appropriate action when necessary (deleting spam, merging double posts, etc.) I try to ensure that everyone treats their fellow members with respect, especially when differing opinions are offered on a subject. I also try to chime in whenever I can contribute meaningfully to a thread.

In a broader sense, I try to help the membership better understand the tools and functions available on the site (reputation, bad post reporting, etc.) and to promote projects on the site (member map, unofficial chat times, etc.) I want you all to get the most out of your time here, and hopefully I have had and will continue to have some success with that.

The important thing that I hope to accomplish is to help the community develop. That is a very broad goal that includes improving the site (format, content, etc.) and the "feel" of the community itself. I take every suggestion I get from members along with my own ideas and maintain a to do/wish list of things to improve the site. The site is currently in its infancy, and there is a lot more to come in the coming months and years. You all have the opportunity to help shape the community with your ideas. The sense of community is very important to the long term success of the site. I will take no credit on this; you guys are doing a great job on your own. It's so nice to see people making a point of following up on others' problems and helping out as much as they can. Keep up the great work! We want everyone to feel welcome here and to know that they can expect friendly answers no matter how new or experienced they are.

Please feel free to PM me any suggestions you have for the forum, or better yet, post them in the Site Suggestions forum for others to comment on as well. We will implement as much as we can as quickly as we can. :)
