Exclamation Language when posting

Anyone who knows me in real life knows that I am not exactly Mary Poppins when it comes to expressing myself. Still I have to mention that some posts are getting a bit "salty" as far as language goes. Unlike most online forums, we do allow young children on ours and as such we are obligated to maintain a family friendly environment. I have seen other dog forums where kids wrote "goodbye" posts to the effect that their parents were not longer allowing them to be members because of foul langauge and mature content. We do not want that to happen here.

Please keep this in mind when posting. Some words are bad enough that they get caught by the bad word filter and in those cases, circumventing the filter by using a "workaround" is not permitted. Some words are simply crude and while they do not get caught by the bad word filter, we ask that you use them sparingly.

If you do feel a need to put some ooomph behind a thought or emotion, we have and who are ready to help get your message across.

Thanks for understanding.

I have to agree with you, some other sites I would not like my kids to be on, but on saying that this site can be very petty minded a bit like a nanny site at times, it's hard to find a happy medium.

Yes it makes sense Jean. Couldn't the filter be updated so more bad words would be filtered out? While there are work arounds Pm's could be sent out to those who break the rules warning them of their behaviour!

Thanks for the responses, it IS hard to find a happy medium. And we have members of all ages from around the world as well. In general we try to stick to a G-rating as defined by the MPAA:
http://www.mpaa.org/FlmRat_Ratings.asp
We do appreciate your efforts to keep our family-friendly rating.

We'd rather not add more bad words to the filter and leave it to members when they REALLY need to add some oomph to a post once in a while. We trust that you won't get too crude too often and for the most part it works out. There are some sites that have such strict bad word filters that it interferes with normal posting. My classic example is the dog forum that filters out the word "crap." Fair enough, it's not a word we like to see here either. But when I posted there about feeding my dog "table s****s" I have to say I was startled. What ends up happening is that people there routinely use workarounds (like "c.rap") and the whole purpose of the bad word filter gets lost.

Ok, just a quick term question... is it ok to use certain terms that are in fact correct, such as the word for a whole female dog being used as... well... the term for a whole female dog? It would of course be inappropriate to use the term for a person, as that is an insult.

You mean can you call a bitch a bitch? As you point out, not as an insult. But then, you've used it a number of times in your posts, so you already know it isn't censored.
