I too have a cat. My suggestion would be to introduce them slowly and do not leave the puppy alone with the cat. at any time till you are 100 per cent certain that they are all getting on together. You could have the puppy on your knee and let one cat imno the room at a time for a little time to begin with and then gradually increase the time and introduce the others in the same way. There will probably be some hissing and spitting from the cat (s) to begin with but that should pass and the cat(s) should accept the puppy in time. I would be very careful to begin with of the puppy's eyes as dachie 's are really low to the ground. Mine now all live quite happily together but it will just take time and patience and remember if the cat gets fed up with the puppy it can jump up to a place of safety but the puppy does not have this safe haven. I would get a cage or a carrier for the puppy so it can feel secure I had two cats when my dachies were young and they all settled in well in no time. Good luck and hope it all works out for you.

Edited to add Btw forgot to mention in the other thread that when you bring you puppy home take it to wherever in your garden you want uit to o it business before you take itinto the house and stay with it for as lomg as it takes so it learns that that is where you want it to pee/poop/ Dachies are not the easiest of breeds to toilet train. at least in my experience that have not been

Anther thing I meant to mention is as you have already been advised Dachies can have spinal problems and being overweight doesn't help this . Also do not teach Gucci to beg as when sitting up all the weight goes to he bottom of the back and can cause a slipped disk, I never taught my Brodie to beg but from when he was a puppy he always sat up and I was forever telling him no but did he listen - no and when he was about seven he slipped a disk and was off his legs. Hydrotherapy eventually got him back on his feet although he now walks with a crab like gait. I have had five dachies and he is the only one who has had this problem. Also I would keep the puppy off stairs for the same reason.

I would recommend Burgess Supa Dog"Wellbeing" Early days , when a puppy. O lle these because they don't use soya protein. Meat os a far better protein as it is less likely to trigger allergic reactions and far less likely to cause digestive gas. The early days is suitable for puppys and growing dogs and when Gucci is older I would suggest the Young at Heart this is the nearest equivalent that you will get in the well being to a light which they stopped making. I used to have mine on the light to keep the weight down. Hope this helps.

I am careful if I am feeding a complete as so many of them have all sorts of additives , but he well being is wheat gluten and as already mentioned soya free and has aloe vera .

Different people will recommend different foods so this is only my opinion. But two I would not use are Eukenuba Hills Science diet, .

I agree it is hard to get it right and the more peple you ask the more confused you become as everyone recommends something different . I can only go by what suits my dogs but that is not to say that it will suit every dog. I would say if you get one that does not have additives and derivatives and suits your dog, then stick with it. Pro-plan would not be my first choice however if the puppy has been on this and is doing okay on it there is nor reason really for you to change it.

Give your cats a lot of places to escape to. If you don't have a tall cat condo, I suggest you buy one (or more).

The biggest problem that I had with introducing my puppy to my cats was that the puppy wanted to play with the cats as if they were his littermates. Since he was bigger than the cats as a puppy, this didn't settle well with the cats. Training your puppy to let the cats be is part of the early training process, just as housebreaking is. The puppy needs to know that the cats are part of the pack and he must respect them.
