Post Hi Everyone!

New member here!

Me and my OH don't actually have a dog yet but we will be collecting a Shar-Pei pup in a couple weeks, so excited!

I plan to take some time off to socialise the pup and start basic training whilst i am in between jobs but after a couple of weeks i need to go back to work

Once i am back at work our lil' pup will be left on his own for around 6 - 8 hours Monday to Friday.

Please don't think i like the idea of this, if i could afford it me or my OH would be at home all day.

Any how we plan to give him lots to do whilst we are out and have made the house really puppy safe but i am still concerned.

What do you guys think?

Feel free to send me down in flames!

Hi Stevieb and

No flames here, we don't believe in that. Besides, most of us have to work, otherwise who would put dog biscuits on the table?

But seriously, this question comes up a LOT (maybe we need an FAQ on working full-time with a new puppy?)

Here is a recent few threads where another newbie asked the same question, perhaps there is some guidance there for you?

Thanks skunkstripe.

We will be getting a Dog Walker once he has received his first Vacination and i only work 30mins from home so perhaps if i can work a little latter i can take an extended lunch and pop home in the afternoon a few days a week.

Who knows, i may even win the lottery before then and so wont even have to go back to work!

Anyone have some practical advise on how to keep him entertained?

We have toys and chews and will keep a radio playing in one of the rooms, anything else that would help?

Hello and Welcome the forum. I like the idea of the radio. My parents when they got a dog awhile back they either played the radio for her or the tv. Sounds like you are already doing great. Can't wait to you get your puppy so we can see lots of pics!

Kongs and crates are my suggestions!

Hello and welcome to the forum! Great to have you with us. Owwwwww, I do love Shar-Pei dogs! I hope you'll post lots of pics so we can watch your pup growing up & hear all about his adventures.
