Default To puppy or not

Today I lost my baby and one of his best friends needs a home. Do I or dont I adopt. Goldie is only 5 weeks old and was a friend of Caspers since she was 2 weeks and found in a box with her 7 brother and sisters in the desert. All her family have been homed but she is still with out a mum. She has hung out with Casper every day for past 3 weeks and he loved her. She has been exposed to him when he was infected and is healthy - is it fair to bring her into a home where a dog died of Parvo - will i love her as much as Casper. She seems very healthy but my heart can not stand to loose another doggy. Advice please.

Hi

If your heart is saying keep her then keep her. I think you shold if you are aching that much. I usually follow my heart and sometimes it is the worng way to go but on most occasions it is right on.

Sorry should have added this, if she has already been exposed then chances are she will either develop it or she will be fine but she should have already developed it. Take her to the Vet immediately and get him to look her over and give her, her first set of shots which should boost her immune system. Talk to your Vet about keeping her but at this point it would not be a good idea to rehome her is she has been exposed already it means should could spread it to another household.

I would keep her also! I have to say alot of people want puppies and go to reputable breeders and that is great, but there is something extra special about those who resuce they are angels to me It takes a big heart to give another chance to a rescue dog, that might just be what I will do next time around! I think she will make a wonderful addition to your life!
Good Luck Tori,
Andrea

Oh Lord sorry I had to edit, by all means take to the vet as soon as possible...

I think you should follow your heart too. I'd take the pup in for a vet check before making your decision & discuss properly handling of this situation (use the same vet familiar with Casper's treatment, if possible). Your vet will likely advise you to disinfect the area where Casper lived & offer suggestions on how to properly do so. It might be best to keep the pup away from the area for a few more weeks but take the vet's advice on this.

5 weeks old? This must be just a tiny baby... Having lost a beloved dog this past summer, I felt like the pain would never go away. If I were you I would consult a vet and this way if the vet says it's alright adopt this little sweetheart. I understand that you just wouldn't be able to handle the loss of another furbaby, so talk to a vet and then you will know your decision is the right one. In the meantime, give that little pup all the love it deserves and let the puppy kisses heal your heart.
