Default How to leash train a puppy

Ever put the lead on the puppy, and get the reaction, "oh my GOD- I am being strangled" as a holy fight breaks out?
I start with putting a short little light weight lead on the puppy. With you in the room, let the puppy drag it around for a few minutes. Then I pick it up and slowly calmly walk around the puppy. Now the transition- outside or inside- getting the puppy to follow you. Call the puppy towards you, then you take a step back- with every step the pup makes towards with only a little tension- praise the puppy for that one step.. Step by step.. the pup realizes real quick that not fighting the lead gets praise. Now same thing outside- take a few steps where you want to go- as soon as the pup takes a step towards you , instant praise and let up on the lead.
This also works on adults. When I did rescue, I would get even adults that had no clue to a leash- none- and this method works as well...
