Default What next?

Im debating on which breed to get next! The ones i am at a loss for final decision are...
Golden Retriever
Greater swiss mountain dog
German Shepherd
and Rhodesian Ridgeback(sp?)
Of course im still planning on adopting a doggie, but im still on the hunt for the perfect one. Im also leaving for michigan in May so im kinda putting it off a little!
BUT, I want to contribute to the breeds that are scarce in my area, which would be German Shepherd and Greater swiss mountain dogs. Swissy's alot more the GSD's but they are not often seen!
Of course i would do my homework and make sure i found the perfect one ect. ect. but Im going to be breeding my labs in a year or a little more and their already is an overabundace of them.
Which im not sure if i've told anyone on here, but once i move into my new house...which still hasnt been found either, but i will have a Labrador rescue! So i can always rehome the many unwanted labs or lab mixes in my area.
But i would really like to contribute(in a very good way) to the scarce population of dog breeds in my area!
So there's a little backround, and off i go...

Okay- with labs as far as how they view life and temperment I would suggest a golden. The other 3 are more serious in their approach to life. Its the approach... Shepherds are usually more all round, but still more serious than a lab is.. However- with a good "leader" ( you) really alot of breeds would be fine. When I had shepherds, I also had two dobies, and a dane. I also had a affepincher.. lol.. But she was just as direct as they were..
I did also have a borzoi. BUt he just let them handle things.. lol..

as with all puppies/dogs you need to make sure what every you get is from a good breeder, and before you decide to breed as well make SURE you get all the health checks on your dogs for heriditary diseases/problems hip displasia is a must for all breeds as they can all get it, if you want to go the ridgeback route then they must be tested for dermoid sinus, a very fatal disease most if not all ridgeback puppies who have this are put to sleep as there is no fix for it. please please dont breed your dogs until you get them tested because its unfair to people who buy the puppy if it gets sick and it could have been prevented.

Why would you contemplate breeding from your labs when you already acknowledge that there are many unwanted labs in your area?

Because like i said, im going to have a LAB Rescue, to help elliminate the amount of labs in shelters in my area and give them the time they need to be rehomed and not put down!

The best way to promote rescue labs would be to REFRAIN from breeding and adding to the glut.

This is the end of my adding to this thread, my thoughts are very strong on my lab topic and im almost positive ill end up getting angry!
So thanks everyone for your advice, it was just something i was thinking about and it was never 100%. Labs are my breed so ill prolly never breed another type of dog, probably buy or adopt a different breed just to have.
The labs in the shelters in my area are not purebreed, their all mutts(which isnt a bad thing) but all the purebreeds that are bought, are kept!(i get on petfinder everyday, if not every other. The local shelter is about 15 minutes away so i make trips quite regularly, so thats where i get this information.
(plus work at petco and talk to alot of people at both of my jobs)
Im sure a purebreed gets put in the shelter occasionally but not very often(of labs that is)sorry if that doesnt make sense!
well anyways, thanks again!
