Default Whelping box my husband built- update in box

Its perfect- .. the bar is to keep the females back from squishing the puppies behind her if she moves- corners are open to allow a space in the corner with no center as its attached from the back so the puppy has a space. The door closes to keep young puppies in with a latch on the outside. Its also HUGE made of solid pine. the carpet isnt in yet in the floor, and wont be til the last week. All screws are recessed to keep any problems- and I LOVE IT!
It is soooooooooo wonderful to have a husband that knows how to build things from my chicken scratch drawings.. loll so what to you think?

Looks like the perfect size. Well done! I've never had a litter of pups but have had hundreds of kittens & we used a smaller version of them & covered all sides with formica & silicone sealant in the cracks so that we could disinfect & do quick clean up. Not sure if there are the same worries with dogs, but you might want to consider a formica flooring.

Great welping box.The only thing,I would be nervous about, are the metal parts that are inside.Pups and mom could hurt themselves when they are older and start to chew,on everything.

I think too often you see whelping boxs without that shelf! I think its waaaaay important! and it will probably have all that scratchy stuff covered when you put carpeting pieces in right

Everything is highly recessed. You can not even feel them at all. Its hard to show in photos- . I am sorry but my camera is not very good. He used a rooter to recese them ( I think that was the name of the tool- I am NOT mechanically inclined- but he has a masters in just about everything..) Everything is totally recessed so nothing would ever catch etc.
I am so excited.. cant wait!!!

Thank you! I have the carpet pieces but they will air out so they are 'room smells." and wont go in until the final week. This so much better than what I could buy.
and to think it came out of my chicken scratch drawings.. lol. MAN- MEN ARE GREAT!!!!

HMM.. GOOD idea.. What glue do you use for the tile that is safe? Borzois think they are royality- so it has to be a soft surface. Before I used shower curtains and washed them daily with carpet on top for footing . Let me check that out...
I use to put shower curtains- aired out- changed daily with new carpet that was previously aired out for a month on top. I had 3 days of shower curtains- laundry daily .. ( seriously.. lol)

Ohhhhhhhhh honey- my heart is out to you. I talked a long time on the phone with you, mean while trying to hide my own fears.
Pat darling- all we can do is the best we can- then its up to ' mother nature'.. We did corners because the pups are long and narrow. Never did this with shepherds, and I highly respect your advice as the 'diva' of the shepherd world. I know your reputation and my hat is off to you.. God bless you- .. Michelle.

Aww darlin', I am so sorry shep. ::BIG HUGS::

You did everything you could...and though its hard, it will get better...and just think of those two puppies you have...take care of them and work with them and maybe the hurt will fade away if you put your energy into that...but it will get better.

again, ::BIG HUGS:: and we are here for you.
