Exclamation 9 month old sheltie

Hi everyone!

I had a question about my pup Basil. I'm not to sure how to say this but, during the day when we go to pet her, call her name to come, or just be there with her, she gets very excited.

I don't understand why? We take her biking on the side with us daily. (So some of her engery can be realesed) but she's still always very excited to be with us.

Don't get me wrong, we love her company, and love spending time/playing with her as well, but I don't know, it's kind of akward

Lauren

Yep, I would say enjoy it. Our sheltie was not so outwardly affectionate. I would have loved it if he was.

Is there something about her excitement that bothers you?

No not really. I just wish she would enjoy her own youth.

See another thing I did not mention was that when we go out for hiking/walking/biking, and we let her roam around and interact with other people and dogs, all she wants to do is stay with us. I want her to enjoy life.
I mean, maybe she is enjoying life stuck on us, but I would like her to play and have a blast!

Lauren, you are her life and will be forever. That's just the way it is with dogs. She is still young, and will develop a curiousity for other dogs, people and things. For now make her feel secure with you and with that confidence she will explore the world around her. Be patient with her.

My Mum's Sheltie is very similar. He sees people as his flock, and while he enjoys playing with other dogs, given the option he would rather play with his people! Sometimes it makes you feel like, "Can't you entertain yourself??" but now I say enjoy it - I can't get MY dog to pay attention to me for love or money, when there's another dog around...
