Welcome to Dogforum.org.

Take a couple of weeks that will be fun for you and your new pup.

What kind of pup are you getting?

Awesome, it's going to get big fast so take loads of pictures while it is still small or you will miss the chance. If you get a chance please post some pics here and let us know how you are making out.

Hi and welcome to the forum from me and my Gang. I also think take at least two weeks off, when you go back how long is puppy going to be left alone for? Enjoy his puppyhoood they are like children and grow up too quickly, blink and you've missed a very important step of it, some puppy pics when puppy arrives would be really nice. Best of luck with your new addition.

Owwwwwwww, I love Bullmastiffs! I'd love to see pics of your new baby & watch him grow, if only from afar. Please post pics when you get him.

I agree, the first 2 weeks are the most important ones with your new pup. It is a big adjustment for all & the most fun of all.

8 hours might be a little too long for a young pup, (kinda like telling a baby not to mess its diaper for 8 hours) is there someone who can come check in on the pup after you go to work to let him out to potty or are you willing to put him in a doggy daycare or something similar? house training can take up to 6 months for some dogs so depending on how old he is when you get him and if he has started being houstrained already or not. good luck with your new pup and remember pups teeth too so make sure to get him plenty of toys to keep his mouth happy and from biting you!! lol

Aww, congrats on getting your new puppy! I'm sooo jealous! 2 weeks sounds like a great 'bonding' period, it will allow your to really get to know your puppy and start to set some ground rules in the house. 8 hours is way to long to leave a young pup in my opinion, but don't worry coz there is loads of things u can do, you could hire a dog waler, they're quite cheap and quite common in the uk, r u from the uk? Is there any way you could nip back on a break or at lunch to let the pup out and have a play? Can you get a relative/neighbour who you trust to nip in once or twice?
I don't know if you were planning to use a crate or not, but I really wouldn't advise shutting the pup in while your at work, IMO thats cruel, you could get a large puppy play pen or give him the run of the ground floor or sumin?
good luck and everfin!
