Default Rant over Valentine

Just ranting.

Dang am I power tired! I'd forgotten how much work a Puppy is! I'd forgotten alot of things like How stinky they are, how snuggly they are, how confused they get about what I want and how CHEWY they are. Val eats everything! I've had to go ver the lower foot of the house with fine tooth comb to keep him from eating every tid bit of stuff he finds. Thank God this puppy has a complete coverage plan with PetPlan because he's going to swallow something bad one day (or get hit by a parked car. lol) and need it removed!

House training so far has been the worst. I'm getting god at predicting when he needs to go and he's got a signiture sniffing technique that tips me off but he dislikes the outside with a passion and will wait to poop until he's inside. We've had only one successful pop outside and boy, did I praise him. I praised him so long he must have forgotten why I was so happy. But honestly. House training is soooo trying. I'm hoping it wil lbe a little easier when its just him once I've taken him home to Toronto.

ARG!

in love iwth my Pup,
-C

Sweetie just keep being patient regardless and he will catch on to pet and praise and know how happy it makes you. Try a ring of old keys at the door or bells on a big tough ribbon, take him there to hit it for the sound, then walk him out. He might just find this is kinda fun.? lol. Hopefully he will catch one and go outside, I would not want cold wet snow on my bazzoo either, ha ha. Find a good treat he adores and when he does one or two give him the treat plus some hugs. Pups are constant work but most catch on fairly fast. Put a baby gate up and keep him in one room, put a tag along leash cut to about two feet, a flat nylon one that is u notice anything pick up on it and head to the same door always and to the same area. Keep at it and persistance pays.

Oh I know. He'll learn. If he messes it just means I'm not watching him carefully enough or anticipating his liklihood to have to go. There has only bee na few times where he goes within 15 minutes after being outside and peeing. He's just a baby (and WHAT a baby) and its my responsibility to help him learn to go outside. Not his.

Im not in too much of rush, I'm sure he'll be completely confused when I move him to Toronto with all the new smells and a new apartment to get used to. He's a smart boy, he know his name (or at least that I'm talking to him). He's started going into his kiste by himself and while in them iddle of the night he wants to snuggle with me on the bed, he still starts off in his Kiste.

He's jsut confused. He went from a whole big room at the shelter to run around and pee and poop anywhere he wanted to suddenly being tossed out into the cold to do his business by some crazy lady that keeps clapping her hands at him and throwing all his favourite toys into this creepy cage. Right now hes passed out cold in his Kiste, he's got a blue blanket made from that really soft baby material that he loves.

The only thing about Val I wasn't really expecting was the ... well...the 'humping'. He's barely 8 weeks old! Hes a horn dog already. lol. But he's my special boy.

LOL ... sounds pretty normal to me. I know that isn't much comfort to you right now, but this too shall pass. Keep up all your consistent methods & he'll be trained before you know it.

Ah yes ... you've got a humper too, eh? Ozzy started that at about 12 weeks so he got snipped at 5 months & a minute. I'm glad to report, that he only humps about once every couple of weeks now when he gets really over-excited (looking forward to the day that he forgets how).

I'm not sure if Val is just Dumb or Picky. He wont go outside at all right now as we had a storm last night. I'm not sure If I shoul put papers down (I mean, I wouldn't wanna squat in a pile snow...chapped lips and half). Grrrr. We'll have to keep trying.

I've noticed Val is very dominant. He fights with navi over the food, over the toys, kicks her out of his crate and steals anything she migt have found. He tries to steal my pillows and my spot on the bed and I ave to pick him up and ungracefully redirect him to the floor. I think I have an Alpha Dog.

Dang.

Good thing I'm a bigger control freak!

Val needs to suck it up! If you start putting papers down for him then indoors becomes fair game. My experience is you don't want to go there. If the snow is higher than he is, then you can cut him a path, but that is about the only concession we make.

And if Val is being überalpha to Navi thre is no harm in the REAL alpha (you) stepping in and giving him whatfor. Good thing you are a control freak, that helps!

Oh he gets a little tap on the bum and time out when he wont share. Little piggy needs some manners. No, papers are a bad idea. He holds it if hes in his crate so until he goes I'll jsut toss him in there and try every half hour until he does it. Then I can praise him.

And yet...the snow is higher than he is. WHich doesn't seem to bother Navi one bit (fun stuff to tunnel through). lol

Isn't the bad weather the absolute pits when you are trying to potty train! We had a major ice storm as soon as I got Koko, and she is so scared outside that I have to go out with her or she won't stay there. Now we have 4 inches of snow and she doesn't want any part of that either.

Hang in there it has to get better!

this may sound odd but try putting a bell on his collar so you can hear where he is, that way if you cant see him you can still tell where he is and that is a good way to keep on top of potty training!!
