Default Help with female puppy

Here I go again........I need reassurance that I am doing ok......

I have a 11 week old Collie girl. I have never had a girl before, human or otherwise! I have had two male pups prior to her. What I am learning is that females are different to males.

I love her to peices, but she is a handful. She pees and poops more and more often. She whines at night to go out, which is normal but she was doing it every 2 hours. I would bring her out and she would go [email protected]!

Has anyone else found the females more difficult in the puppy stages?

She was raised indoors. Our breeder does a wonderful job with her pups. I am not worried about that one bit. I guess I am just frustrated at this point.

We just had to put our male collie down last month and he was 8 months old. I worked so hard with hima and he was turning out wonderfully. I guess I am a little tired and I get discouraged at having to do it all over again. It's not her fault. It's just hard at times. Most times I don't mind really.

I have lupus and now I am going through menopausal stuff and I guess that doesn't help right?! LOL

Sorry, but the two hour schedule sounds very normal for a pup. A high volume of poop suggests she may not be digesting her food as well as she might, so a change in puppy food might be worth considering.

Pauline the point i was trying to make was pups raised outside often take longer to toilet train than ones raised indoors.

What are you feeding her and how many times aday?

Hi Tom, I took that into consideration about the food. I just changed her to another one. This will be the second day she is on it, so we will see how it goes. I think her stools look better though with the new food.

As far as getting up every two hours, I read somewhere else on the forum that she should be able to hold it four hours at night.

I am feeding her Eagle Brand Large breed puppy formula. I feed her 3/4 - 1 cup, three times a day. She has a large appetite.

Well, I'm definitely not an expert....but at 11 weeks...2 hours sounds fine!!!

But sounds like a lot of food to me for an 11 week old.....just my opinion...but Bruno eats 3 and 1/2 cups a day mixed with a little table meat....and he is 19 months and 100lbs.
