Default Worms

I took my pet to the vet a week ago and they discovered a few different types of worms. for two of the worms, I received medication he is supposed to take daily for a certain number of days. then of course he has the visible worms that look like rice-pieces when they come out.

well he was given deworming medicine at the vets a week ago. how long does it take to be in effect. I thought he was getting better but today I saw a bunch of worms on his feces (and they were soft and moving) in the form of rice-like segments. What really got me is just a while ago, he was sleeping on my bed and I go to pet him and I see worm that have started to dry on my bed. I cleaned it up and sprayed it with some lysol and he went back to sleep in a new area on the bed. I look at his area and I see another worm slowly coming out. Now I am typing this.

How long should the deworming process take? I was looking around on the internet and I saw that people saw results in 2-3 days.

Also, he has wiped his butt on the floor in a dragging movement 2-3 times in the past 20 minutes as if something is itching up in his area.

I hate the fact he has worms. What should be my next approach? Should I take him back to vet? I heard those dewormers in the stores don't work well so I don't want to try those.

You are going to see worms coming out. As they died they let go of the hold they have this is why you are see them. It is perfectly normal to see lots of worms coming out if your dog especially if your dog has a large parasite load.

If you are concerned call you vet and explain what is going on and ask if your dog has the right dose of meds .

It usually takes a week to 10 days to expel the worms, but sometimes a second dose of dewormer is needed with an especially heavy parasite load. How is the pup doing, now?

currently, he is pooping 3-5 times per day. Sometimes he has to move around a few times to finish the deed. I think he has this diarrhea due to the medicine. Should I call the vet or wait and see if he improves as I just finished the medicine a few days ago.

Also, worms are not crawling out of his anus anymore but he still has a few worms in his poop every time he poops. I think this problem is decreasing.

I am still trying to house train him.

Everything you described it normal he is fine. With a huge worm load like he was carrying you are going to see dead worms in his poop for awhile. The meds will probably make his poop runny like you described and going as many times as he is is normal. As long as he doesn't have extremely runny poop he is ok.

Give him some plain canned or steamed pumpkin; this will help with the runny poop and is very good for him as well.

It will take a good week to unload the worms and maybe another dose of meds to finish the eggs off etc.
Sounds like he has tape worm that is the small ones you see crawling out his back end and moving, this keeps a dog lean as they eat alot from the dogs nurishment. It is highly important to keep a dog worm free. If I were you I would Hot Lime my property in the spring about mid March so it kills any eggs and other bad things in the ground. I never had a worm problem as I do this every spring then I worm every 22 of the month all 7 of my Shepherds. I hope you get your pet back in good shape for worms can effect people also. Keep your hands cleaned while he is being treated. Do not feed him human foods, only his kibble with warm water over it. Give the dog a good supplement as he is going to be draggy after this load and yes they cause diaherra, listlessness, such a shame, keep an eye or make a calendar some place just for the dog and worm monthly and mark it down.
