Default My staffy has rejected 1 of her 24hour old pups

I have a staffy who had 7 pups yesterday, unfortunatly 1 was dead. All the remaining 6 are fine, but by tea time today you could tell she wasn't into one of the puppies she was spending all her time moving the other puppies away from it and leaving it alone. It is slightly smaller than the rest but only just but she's not feeding it so we gave it some fomula which it had a bit of straight away so it must of been hungry. Lola (the mum) has now settled with the others i was just after some advice from people on hand rearing this pup as this is my 1st ever litter of pups thanks.

you should keep the other pup's away from the mum and only leave that one to bond with the mum for about 2 hours
with supervision on the puppies and the mum

you can also try rubbing one of lola's blankets on that pup to get the scent on the pup

Take it to the vet. there may be a problem Lola can sense that you dont see. She is rejecting it for a reason. hwo old is lola? is this her first litter?

Odd situation, sorry to hear this, it's good to know you're there to feed her. I would definately call your vet to see what he suggests. What breed?

Sometimes this happens. Usually for a reason. She's moving the others away from it for a reason. Sometimes, seemingly healthy pups do not thrive. You need to get that pup to the vet. The fact that she is taking care of the others is a good sign, particularly in a first litter. Congratulations, and good luck with the runt.

Put yr finger in the mouth of the puppy to check for a cleft pallet. You're looking for a space. That might be one reason. If he holds until tomorrow, take him to the vet.Yr dog might be sensing that there is something wrong with him and he might not make it.

This usually happens if there is something wrong with a pup. as golden&hovawart has suggested fell for cleft pallett. Bitch's sense there is something wrong and no matter how much you put them with the others she will nudge it out. Fingers crossed
