Default Can i have some help please?

Hello there,

Im Jade and I'm just interested if anyone has any experience with Pressa canerio's? I am about to get a beautiful pup in around 4 weeks but am a little worried as the one i have my eye on is half the size of his litter!! and the other one is a good size. The reason I'm so keen on the little boy is because he is the perfect colour, his personality is good but seems a little shy and timid, whereas the other big boy is confident and loving. I know their personalties are not completely out at the moment but worried that if i was to get the little boy that he may have some health problems in the future or not get as big as a boy of his breed should! Any help will be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Are you purchasing this puppy from a breeder? If so, I'd suggest you talk to the breeder. They should be helping you match a pup that would fit what you want.

While I don't have a lot of experience with Presa Canario's I do know they are a powerful breed. For that reason, I'd make sure the breeder you purchase from know what they're doing(are breeding sound/stable dogs and are doing genetic testing/etc).

If you're getting the puppy from a rescue, same advice I mentioned at first-talk to the rescue about what you'd like(personality/otherwise) and they should help in matching the best pup for you.

Either one(breeder or rescue) should be able to answer your questions and give you any information you need/want. Good luck!

yes we have spent a lot of time with the breeder and he has been very honest with us about the pups. we have seen the mum and dad also and them in their home environment, i just wanted to ask for other opinions as going crazy over the decision lol. yes very powerful breed and thats why its key to get every single bit of info i can. but the breeder is absolutely amazing and is keeping us updated at all times

I'm glad you found a good breeder and are working with them. I'd also suggest you take the pup to a vet within 42 hours of bringing it home to get it started on vaccinations/de-worming and also to have the vet give it a health check.

I'm not sure if you live in America or not, but I'd suggest you look into the parent club for the breed, here's the one for America: Presa Canario Club of America

They have a forum on that website, you could talk to other owners of the breed, those involved with the breed there.

If you don't live in America you can do a search online for the parent club for where you live. It should have something similar. Looking forward to seeing pictures of your pup when you get it.

Personally, I would avoid choosing the shy / timid pup from a litter like the plague. Fear is probably the hardest thing to overcome with training, and very easily translates into aggression issues as the dog matures. Reconsider the confident pup....
