Default Is that aggression?

My 2 month old male puppy not all the time but about 1 or 2 times a day show me aggression? is unreasonable defensive ? i don't know ! when the red zone starts he is excited and he chew on anything then we correct him by said him no and try to redirect him to his toys, he start barking at us jump to us trying to play ferocious snap game we don't want to encourage biting and ferocious behavior so we tried to ignore him, to redirect him, to calm him, but doesn't seem to work. he had time outs because he was barking and growling when we walk inside the house, growling and bark when we correct him for chewing furniture, during the red zone time he stare at our eyes and growling in our face, he is also stubborn to what he want to do and don't give up easily. red zones last about a half to an hour, especially early at night and some times in the mornings. the rest of the day he is calm response to correction and training he is kind! we haven't spoil him, we work on limits, housebreaking, affection when he is calm and kind in game. supervising all the time and reward good behavior, exercise him! is this normal puppies behavior? have you similar experience? we took normal puppy hood things very seriously? how do you correct your puppy and balance it?
any idea of you very welcome!!

coral, it sounds like he's just being a puppy. My dogs are both adults, but still do play growling with their toys. I'm sure one of the trainers on the Forum could probably answer better than I can. It doesn't sound like aggression at all. I think he just wants to play.

thank you DeeLind7 I undestand all is about playing and the fact that we are unexperienced owners make us worried bit too much,
but now for example he is over excited again, we had a retrieving game and when we finished he came barking at me growling, i ignore him and he snaped at me. i know he wants to play more he is excited but this is not right. i should find out a way to correct him in this part, no idea what ..

What kind of puppy is he? How much exercise is he getting? Have you tried clicker training with him? At 8 weeks I realize you cannot take him out for walks yet but teaching them things like sit and down will help get rid of some of his energy and once he learns you can ask him to sit or down when he gets over excited.

he is a mix breed rescue puppy we guess a jack russell- sheep dog mix but not sure we training him with clicker 3 weeks now he knows to sit, down, up,come , his name , take his food after command. in 2 weeks he would be able to go for a walk..before his 3 meals we do the clicker training and morning/afternoun retrieving and toy playing. do you think he needs more ? ( when he is excited he only response to sit but not all the time) i ve noticed that after playing with as he is so excited we can t control him although we dont play war games.. after that he dont responce to corrections and barks growls and snaps it takes as about an hour to calm him..

Hi Coral it's not always easy to detect what is agression and what isn't if he presents a challenge to you don't give up, if he gets too rough play must stop! You set the rules not your dog Keep the boudaries going! I would seriously teach him a good solid 'leave it' and introduce N.I.L.I.F (Nothing In Life Is Free) Sheepdogs ( I know he is a mix!) are incredibly intelligent and not only need physical excerise but love mental work outs too! So set him challanges daily!!! I set challanges for my dog (Staffy Bull Terrier) It's ok giving treats say out of your hand but hide some treats in the room and let him find them or place some treats under some plastic cups and vary which cups you put them under etc We do have trainers on here who will also give you advice. If it is agression then it needs nipping in the bud straight away! Good luck and let us know how you get on

Did you say that he is 2 months now? 8 weeks? and you have had him for 3 weeks? In that case THAT is your issue.. He should been with mom and sibblings to minimum of 8 weeks.. Taken too soon will give poor impulse control and the high level of stress he seems to exhibit can def be in relation to that...

Just read the post again and it does seem he was only round 5 weeks old when he left his family So true what you say Monkey If he had the full 8 weeks with his litter mates and his mum he would have been kept in check and learnt what he was doing was unacceptable behaviour!! Edit: In fairness we may not know wether Coral knew that Puppies should not leave their mum till at least 8 weeks old If he/she didn't know then it's not their fault, but they might need a trainer/behaviourist in to help them

That's so sad that these pups were just dumped and a bit of a bonus that they were near the animal welfare place! It always gets me that these people who do these sort of things never call these centresand say I can't cope atc,etc can you pick these pups up please! I am glad the hidden treats game is working not only his physical needs but his mental needs too! So keep at this How is his biting and growling getting on!! ?
