Default American Eskimos in Colorado?

We've fallen in love with a young American Eskimo male (8-weeks) at a local pet store, but I'd really prefer to get one from a more reputable source... However, I can't find any breeders, litters, or young rescues in Colorado... Any advice pointing me in the direction of a new 4-legged bundle of joy would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

(P.S. - I'm looking for a standard size Eski)

staryoski, welcome to the forum! Kudos to you for not purchasing a pup from a pet store. Reputable breeders do not sell their pups to pet stores. They are all puppy mill dogs. You may want to try rescues and shelters outside of your state. There are many groups out there, that have transport systems. You can go on-line and send them an e-mail of what type of dog you are looking for, sex and age. With the economy the way it is right now, there are so many dogs in need of forever homes. Owners have given up their beloved pets because they just can't afford them. There are so many that are well trained, and just great dogs. Rescue is the way to go!

Unfortunately, I do not have the time to work with an out of state rescue, as I'd like to play with and get to know the dog before it arrives at my door step... I'm open to finding the right dog from a rescue, but my preference would be to find one directly from a breeder or a litter within a 120 mile radius or so of Fort Collins, CO.

I have paged through the rescue sites and haven't found one close enough that matches my expectations (Young, Standard size, and preferably house-broken without any outstanding medical issues)... It's hard to resist the temptation to take home the little bundle of love from the pet store, despite knowing that many of them come from mills, but I would definitely wait for the right pup if I can actually find one in Colorado.

From your link I did find a raffle/fundraiser for the Eskie rescue group, at least I'm going to throw them a bone or two and help a good cause

Yep. I sent an e-mail inquiring about two of the eskies... I'm not sure if they're the right fit for me, but I'd like to meet them. I'd still like to find a breeder, though.

Have you tried any breed specific forums? There are a lot out there. I only belong to this dog forum, but ther are plenty out there. If you google American Eskimo dog forums, there are quite a few. My guess is, one of them should have some breeders that may be able to help you.

They didn't seem to be as active as DogForum, and since I'm an Overclock.net editor I started here first

It seems that way But yeah, I need an Eski tracker that tracks the birth of every Eski in this state so I can hunt them down and adopt one :3
