Default Long car trip 3mnth old kelpie!

At midnight me and my partner will be embarking (no pun intended ;D) on a 14 hour car trip with our 3 month old kelpie (Jet) he has had a number of car trips before an hour here or there but nothing this long!! We will be traveling with my girlfriends dog aswell and they get along pretty well so shouldn't be a problem just wondering what steps I can take to make the trip more comfortable for both Jet and myself !

Hi Big J How are you containing Jet and your girlfriends dog as this is quite important not on any ones knee I hope! Have you got travel boxes for them or have another safe idea? Also plently of stops not just so the dogs can stretch their legs (and go to the loo) but yours too Take some water and food for the dogs as it is a long journey! Where are you heading to? Hey have a great trip and don't forget the pics when you get back! Enjoy ATB

Big J, welcome to the forum! Wow, what a long trip! All I can say is make quite a few stops along the way and Jet should be fine! As long as you have some treats and toys, you should be fine.

Both dogs have a car chain type thing and they both know to lay down. Cages are a bit confined as he's way to energetic lol! We always make plenty of stops and let them run about ( have done this trip with gfs dog and a kitten before) heading from rural nsw to the gold coast in Queensland for a holiday !!

When MacKenzie was a pup that age I was travelling full time in an RV. I can remember seeing just about every travel rest stop on the eastern seaboard of the US....

Plan on stopping with a 3 month old puppie about once every hour to hour and a half for him to go pee, stretch his legs, run around for a while and get a drink.

MacKenzie's first road trip was what should have been 6 to 7 hours...it took me 12.

Good luck on a 14 hour trip, glad it's vacation time with no deadline to get anywhere!!
