Default Biting chi

hi all. i got a Chihuahua I just got her. she a puppy as you all know. At first she was chewing my hand. today it turn into a BITE and it hurt. she grab my arm and try tossing it like a toy. i hope i can change this before she turn into an adult dog. everytime i she try chew i gave her a chew toy. she was on the couch earlyer and she bit me hard so i took her to her place "hall" and let her be. after a while i went to see her and she was calm. now justa few mins ago i let her on my bed and she try to attack my left arm again. i dont know what to do. she also try pulling my hair!

She is being a puppy. You need to teach her that this is NOT allowed. Always keep a toy ready. Don't play with your hands (don't encourage her to bite at all) and play with a toy instead. If she does get hold of you, tell her no and stop playing. Walk away until she calms down, and then come back. She will get the hang of it. Just teach her that if she is rough- you don't want to play.

It's helpful when she does bite to let out a loud yelp/squeak or "ow" type of noise, stop playing, and withdraw your attention from her for a few minutes. If she was with her littermates this is what they would do to tell her she was being too rough. She is only a baby and still learning bite inhibition.

If she is a bit stubborn ( ie after a few weeks of no and re direct) you can try putting bitter apple on your hands

Don't worry it's a total normal process for her to play like that 1. she is soon changing her puppy teeth for adult teeth and that makes it itchy. Biting on things makes that itch feel better. 2. She is also learning to "hunt" that's what the game is about tht won't make her a bad dog. Just follow the basic tips of 1. Make a loud ouch noice like a high pitch squeel or OW with a minnie mouse kinda voice and 2. Ignore her and walk away as soon as she gets too rough and 3. give her a ton of praise when she calms down she will soon get the hang of it. It might take a while of consitensy but you will get ther

Yes it's normal but unacceptable behaviour. What ever positive correction method you use you must stick with it! The ignore way does work and should happen evey time she does nip/bite. Stay calm and stop playing with her or even if she is on your lap and not playing, put Princess on the floor and totaly ignore, No eye contact, No talking to her and no petting her. As you have said I try and use a toy ( this is called redirection) this too works so that's smart thinking on your part. Tip any training is only good when your are consistant and repetious Keep up the good work ATB

That is completely up to you. Raising a puppy is a lot of work and a lot of responsibility. Read the links that Skunk posted for you. Your puppy is relying on you in order to become a well behaved and stable dog.
