Default I didn't know Puppies were that smart...

This is really cool. We have a 10-11 week old ****zu/Lhaso Apso for only one week and for the first time I took him for a walk around the neighborhood. So on his first-ever walk, we passed up so many houses and driveways making a 1/2 mile circle and guess what? As we walk passed our house, he immediately starts heading up our driveway. I thought hmm - this had to be a fluke. Later that day we went for another walk. Again passing up many houses and driveways. As soon as we got close to our house I kept walking not giving him an idea this was our house but sure enough he started heading up our driveway again. When he does this, I can't go back down it because he flattens out and doesn't want to budge. But I can continue walking up it and he mosey along like home sweet home. I live in a tract-home neighborhood so the houses and yards all pretty much look the same. Isn't that cool?

While the houses and yards all look the same to you...your puppy doesn't use his sight to find his way home. Dogs follow their noses and your home and yard is covered in the scent of home for your puppy - like a great big flashing beacon to his nose.

They remember very very well . If Roxy would see a critter (mostly kittys) at a house she would eyeball that house for years . Dogs are impressivley sharp IMO -we don't give them enough credit . They remember , you have to think of that before you lose your temper with them , yell , or get pphysical , they will not forget it and it will permanently damage the relationship .

Sometime in Lucy's past, she was disciplined wih a fly swatter. Even now after 4 years with us, she runs away if we get it down for a fly. I feel so sorry for her, she looks so scared. Must have REALLy been hurt with one.

Hi all, thanks for the replies.

He is a smart puppy. We got him for our 7 year old daughter and she named him what a typical 7 year old would name him.

Meet Spot.

Spot just after his first bath.

Spot after he dried out.

awww such a cutie he is. My dogs know soon as we pull onto the road one mile from our driveway in our van. They seem to sense home is on the road and start to fuss and look for the other dogs. Our drive is at least 200 feet so of course they know when we make a left onto it, they go nuts. dogs smell is a far cry from ours. They are smart also, they know where they live as small little youngins.

awww your puppy is so cute.

My puppy knows too. However instead of heading straight home, everytime i start going into my drive way she's stop and lay flat so she doesnt have to go home. I guess she just love to stay out.

My puppy also figured out to open the doors to my veranda and hide things she knows she shouldnt be playing. I'm also surprised how smart puppies can be.

Thanks you guys for the replies.

Lol.. so funny. My pup thinks he so cool by doing this. (the look on his face - like its a game.) It's also interesting that there is this corner where the neighbors have multiple little dogs that bark at anything that blows in the wind and so now every time we get close that area, he flattens out. So I pick him up and carry him that portion.. I hope he's not doing this too long.
