Default Getting a new puppy!

Well, if I can get good grades and go to school unless I am VERY sick. Like today I came home sick because of the "v word".

I can do both, but sadly I catch almost every illness going around, and get sick easily, but I will have to march on through it.

Mother says only a small dog. Which I am okay with because there are 3 small breeds I love.

1. Miniature Schnauzer
2. Chihuahua
3. Lhasa Apso

So, I will be looking into any of those 3.

It would come spring/summerish.

Don't feel too bad. When you're young and going to school it's like you get sick all the time. You catch it from other kids and your immune system hasn't been exposed to as many illnesses.

Keep up your grades I think that is a good trade for a doggy!

Maybe a good idea would be to take along some sterile wipes and use often from room to room in school. I carry that in my purse and use everywhere I go or do not go even.

One cannot keep the hands clean wll enough, and if not and you just rub your eyes, nose or mouth in goes the viral germs to catch another bug to get ill. Hope your feeling better soon, drinks tons of fluids....

That's great that you can get another dog. There have been studies done that says that having furry pets help stop allergies. Being too sterile stops you from building up natural immunity to bugs. So pat a pet today & everyday.

Your mum sounds great, I wish my mum would have offered a puppy for good grades!

Hope you feel better soon, I used to always get sick when a new term started, I think a lot of people do as they're shoved in with everyone else's germs that they've picked up in the vacation.

Lots of echinacea for you!

A significant number of virus' are airborne. If you constantly use wipes you will dry out your skin which contains oils which protect your skin. By removing the oils you leave yourself open to more virus.

We have spent millions of years evolving to cope with bacteria and virus - but what we didn't spend millions of years doing is helping our bodies to cope with chemicals and obsessive cleaning rituals.

If you have been off school during the summer and you return your immune system will not have developed an immunity to some of the virus, etc, that other kids have.

When I taught first years at University I could almost guarantee that during first 2 months many of them would get colds, flu, virus, sickness just because they are meeting people from different parts of the country/world.

Please don't use hand sanitizer all the time - it is bad for you, unless you are working in an environment (e.g. hospital, doctors surgery etc.,) where health and safety dictates you must.

Just my opinion.

Hey Carole, thats really interesting - I'm always intrigued by anyone who knows about this stuff! I'm severly emetophobic, and whilst I don't use hand sanitiser obsessively most of the time, I do keep specially researched and purchased wipes and foam with me at all times in case of panic attacks!!

During norovirus (vomiting virus) season over here - winter through to spring - I'm very anxious and use the stuff so much that my skin cracks. Norovirus is highly contagious (3% of the UK population last year!), and the only way I can get through every day without having a breakdown is to use special anti-microbial sanitisers.

But the rest of the year I have no fear of coughs, colds, sore throats etc etc, nor do I worry about a bit of general dirt. So hopefully I have a generally okay immune system........
