Default moving to college...

im moving to college at CSUF in about a month, its an hour and a half from my home, problem is ill be home only on the weekends and i want to bring my puppy French Bulldog with me, hes 4 months almost 5 on sept 23rd, and he will live in the apartment with me, its pretty big about 800 square feet hell have the laundry room to himself (he has my bathroom currently) while im at class, and he should be ok ill be taking him to potty all the time, other than that the only thing im worried about is how bored hell get, i mean he stays in the bathroom while im at school as it is, its just a pain to commute, and when i get home i let him out with my other dogs to play (german shepherd and cocker spaniel) and now when i move he wont even have the dogs to play whiles hes out of the pen, idk if this is a bad move if i should not moveand leave him at home (meaning hell be completely unattached if i only visit on weekends) or bring him with me and when i come home a few days out of the week ill take him to dog park and play with my other dogs? wut to do...

I think it would be fine if you took him with you just make sure you spend plenty of time playing with him and try to take him for a walk once a day. If you notice that he is pining for the other dogs then maybe I would think about taking him back but as long as you can fill in the void and he seems happy then I say go for it.

I agree you'll need to fill the void of the other dogs and he'll need lots of attention when you are home or he could well become depressed and/or destructive. You need to think about it carefully though, if you're out a lot of the day at college and then decide you want to go out with mates in the evening etc. you're pup is going to be spending an AWFUL lot of time on his own. I don't think he would be completely detatched if you left him at home where the other dogs are. When I went to uni my dog was over-the-moon to see me when I came home and my boyfriend who only came over certain weekends too - they don't really forget who you are unless you never come home!

Why not leave him at home initially until you settle in and find your feet. You can then see what your timetable is like, and how busy your social life is. Then if you think you can work around your other commitments to give him enough walking and attention you can pick him up from your parents house and take him back with you.

Are you sharing the flat with other students? If so you will need to make sure they are all supportive of the idea of living with a dog.

Default College Pup

I can't imagine being without my pup while in school. We spend nearly all our waking hours together when I'm not in class, but I do feel guilty at times for not being able to give him enough attention. Honestly, I can understand how he feels! I think taking your pup to school with you would be a great idea only as long as you dedicate the time to giving him enough attention. It sounds like he should be used to the time alone from what you said about him spending time in the bathroom, so as long as his play time doesn't get cut backk he should be ok.

I would think seriously about evenings. I know when I was at uni I went out until late most nights of the week. This definitely wouldn't be very fair to a young dog.

Boy Dan, not sure about this. As much as he loves you and you love him, he might be bored to death all day long with no one for company. It could dependon his personality. Maybe he would be ok maybe not. I wish I could tell you but it could go either way.
I think you are very in tune with him so if you try it one way and it doesnt work out you would be willing to go the other way. Keep us posted, maybe we can help.
