Default Myka at 12 weeks

Puppy class has been going well. His sits are excellent and his wait while I get the dogs dinner is very good. It's been hot here for the past week and our outdoor walks have been slow. I did get Maddie and Myka out for a short walk together, that was a lot of fun. His leash manners are good for a 12 week old and he will sit at my side when we stop walking, way cool.
We are still having house training issues with peeing in the house. You think he'd drained himself before you bring him in and BAM 5 minutes in the house and there he goes again! It's keeping us on our toes, thats for sure. I hope this isn't a male dog thing and not just normal house breaking.
Maddie has an agility trial this coming weekend and I'm tossing around the idea of bringing Myka just for him to hangout at our shade cover but this has been Maddies thing and she is already being intruded upon by the little guy around the house. Maybe I'll hold off and keep giving Maddie the focus at events for a while. I'm sure it would be easier on me too.
Any who, here are a few pictures of Myka, Maddie and Jess from the past week.

absolutely stunning dogs!
Myka looks very cute and has a cheeky glint in his eye while holding that watering hose.

They are gorgeous together! I can see where Maddie might enjoy a little one-on-one time with you though.

Yes, Myka wants to be the center of attention. I split them up and spend time with each. This is a lot of work

Yes, its true. But after this one I think I'll need a rest. The hard part is dividing up my time between the kids, dogs and wife... Oh yes, and working full time. I think we could be much farther along in the house breaking venture if I had more time to focus on being consistent with his training.

I think the housebreaking problem is just normal puppy stuff. You wouldn't be seeing maie marking until the dog is sexually mature - around six months. Asher was potty trained at three months (very fast for a sheltie). However when he reached sexual maturity, we had an accident as he learned that "marking" in the house is the same as "peeing" iin the house. I could tell he didn't look at the two concepts as the same.

As for taking him to the agility trial, I can see advantages to both points. Of course, if he's not done with all three shots, I'd keep him home, if possible. If he has his shots, then taking him to a show is great socialization, especially if you're thinking of doing agility with him. He needs to get used to the sounds, smells and sights of an agility trial.

However, Maddie does deserve "dad" time.

I chose to take Asher with me to all the shows. The socialization at that age just can't be replaced. He went to several shows as a very young pup, and is extremely relaxed in that environment.

I want pictures of the trial with results!

Great results with your training!! It sounds like Myka is really coming along. You should be proud. If you have the resources, how about a Youtube video?

Keep us posted.

I will surly post results. I'm not too hopefully with the puppy distractions and a slow down in our training, on how we'll do. As for the video... I've been recorded a few times and I have to say I am one of the most klutzy handlers out there. It's a good thing I've got such a wonderful agility partner, she's always pulling my butt out of the flames and saving me from disaster
I might have my wife bring Myka for a little bit to visit at the trial but I'm thinking it should be Maddie's time.

Having your wife bring Myka is a good way to kill two birds with one stone. Myka can socialize with your wife at the end of the leash for an hour or so and Maddie can have your undivided attention.

I would like a video and pics!
