Default Ear mites and one testicle not dropped

***UPDATE***

Just returned from the vets and all went well.

He has had his first injection today

His second will be when he is 10 weeks old and the one at 16 weeks is actually another parvo injection as there has been a big outbreak in my area..

He does have ear mites and one testicle has not dropped yet is this anything to be concerned about or all normal like the vet said??

Thanks

Ear mites not normal, and one testicle should be there with the other, and now I think might be why you got him and the breeder didnt keep him like she said she was going to, now the other could drop, but if I was keeping a dog pup and hadn't got both at 6 weeks old i wouldnt keep him.

But it might come down.

Ear mights can be easily sorted with ear droops and cleaning the ears . The vet should have showed you how to do it. I am suprized though. A breeder giving you a 6 week old pup with ear mites. that's one BAD breeder. And I wouldn't bother taking advice from them. You been ripped off paying for a pup like that. But what's done is done and all you can do now is take care of your pup the best you can.

Just a note that I've split this off from the puppy food / vaccination thread to make it easier to find info in future searches.

I presume the puppy has been wormed and treated against fleas?

He has been wormed once before and the vet has gave us some drops for the back of his neck for the worming and the ear mites

Im quite worried now about the testicle not dropping.. What will happen if it doesn't drop?

Could it still drop and what are the chances of it dropping? The vet said that it could take up to 1 year for it to drop ??

Also is there anything else we can do to help him with the ear mites apart from the drops??

Bad breeder?? Well do you think i should give them a call??

Thanks

ear mites not normal but a 7 week old puppy may or may not have both testicles dropped yet or something at the vets may have scared it back up. To be honest it can take up to 6 months and I have even heard longer is possible for it to drop. If it doesn't drop no big deal he would just need to be neutered which isn't a bad thing at all.

yes I would call and complain. See if you can get some of your money back, I would ask the breeder to pay the cost of the ear mite treatment and any other cost caused by neglect before you had him

If the testicle doesn't drop then you need to have him castrated at a later date. A retained testicle can cause cancer and all sorts of other problems in later life. Your vet will advise you when this needs to be done. But if his testicle doesn't drop you cannot breed from him.

I'm not a puppy person - well heck I love puppies and have owned puppies but the knowledge here from people like Lassie, BratBoxers, Apples, etc., etc., if far beyond mine. So I don't know what to say about ear mites, but I do think your breeder should have known this and maybe treated him.

Hope you get some better answers than mine.

Be careful with flea/tick preparations, the drop on the back of the neck ones. I've had dogs which have had allergic reactions to them and then your troubles only just begin. Isn't 6 weeks a little young for them? Hope one of the experts can tell me?
