Question Walkies after Vaccination???

Hi does anyone have any idea how long after the second vaccination you are able to take a puppy out of the garden??? I have had conflicting advice from the 2 vets in my practice. On Wed when we were in for a check up he said 10 days after the jab which happened to be done this morning....but the vet who did the jab said 5 days was long enough???

Ive asked a good friend of mine and she said roughly a week....so its getting a bit confusing

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Hi ya

from the vets around our way it is anything from 1 / 2 weeks. We went with 2 weeks as that is what the vet who gave the dogs their jabs said. So I would go with the vet who gave your dog its vacination.

My pups get first shot at six weeks. Next is up to each ones vet schedules of shots. I would be in NO hurry to take out a baby puppy till it gets it 15 weeks shot and Rabi vac. Walk just around the block or your yard, I would never expose it to anything if you have alot of dogs in the area.

My daughter lives one mile across Rt 422 from me and dogs are running loose, attacking other dogs on leashes, she can barely get her daily walk in without a dog attack. She has called the Dog Man with NO results, so do not hurry with a puppy please, I know...

My vet has always said after the 2nd injeciton to wait a week. You can still however socialise if it is a small breed by carrying in your arms as you probably did after the first jab.

it is usually 10 days...even then be careful to keep pup from sniffing (and worse!) other dogs poo which is left about by naughty owners. The sooner you get out and about the better...socialisation of your environment is just as important as with other dogs and people...traffic, smells, sounds etc...as much as you can by 16 weeks.

Tilba had her 3rd puppy shot last Friday week. The vet said wait a week, but on the paperwork I was given it said 10 days. I waited 8 days. At our last puppy preschool lesson last Tuesday, the vets' where the classes were held, told us that they use the newer 2 vaccination schedule. She said the makers of the vaccine say to wait 3 days but she advises her clients 5 days. So it would depend on the type of vaccine used.

Thanks for your replies..... I don't know where everyine else is but in the U.K its 2 vaccinations as a rabies one isnt needed. But to be on the safe side and after speaking to one of the nurses in the practice I'm going to wait 7 days.....so first walkies are on Saturday puppy classes are booked for 11th of June which was the only available time but he'll only be 14 weeks then and am so looking forward to it

Thanks again Tracy n Jack xxx

We don't have rabies in Australia either. Sounds right for a 2 vaccine schedule. Tilba started her lessons at big school (obedience club) last Saturday, aged 16 weeks, after completing 4 lessons at puppy kindergartan.
We start puppies after they've had all their shots, usually about 4 mths old.
