Default Alfie

Hi All,

My OH and I have finally decided to get a new friend for Truffles and we pick him up on Friday. His name is Alfie, and he's an 8 week old English Cocker Spaniel.

We've set up a nice little play area for him in our kitchen where he can have a little space to himself to settle in. I've been reading up on intos with pups and existing dogs in the household and the general advice is have a good play session with big dog before introducing your pup, but I was wondering whether anybody has any other good tips?

Truffles is pretty laid back (even more so since we had him neutered) and I don't think he will cause any problems, but I don't want to stress out Alfie, as Truffles is quite a big boy and Alfie's quite tiny at the moment.
How long would you have them together before seperating again? Is it best to just let them get on with it and only intervene if there's problems?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Internet and book research is one thing, but it's nice to hear from other peoples experiences.

Thanks,
Carla

hi. good luck with your new pup. Try rubbing one of your tops on the pup to get your sent all over him. This will make your other dog think he is yours. As long as they get on I would let them stay together as much as posable.
Photos please

Thats exciting, I'm to be in the same boat shortly. The only thing I've heard is to intro on neutral ground.

I would just let them get on with it and only intervene if there is a problem. I would not however leave them both alone together until I was one hundred percent sure that you can trust your older dog with the puppy.

Good luck you must be really excited
