Default Puppy in outdoor kennel?

Hi,

Can anyone please tell me what age it's okay to put a puppy outside in a kennel?

We have "Hounddog" canvas kennels for Alfie and Bandit which are under the cover of the back patio. The winter here in Brisbane Australia does get chilly with biting winds but not snow type cold.
Bandit our Basenji feels the chill and will stand shaking. Alfie the Lowchen has lovely hair resembling a lamb which we keep clipped short in summer.

Bandit is nearly 5mths now but when he was around 3mths old we put him outside in the kennel with a wheat bag that was heated for 3mins in a microwave. Because it stayed warm for so long, I feel it resembled either the mother's warmth or other puppies warmth. He use to curl quite happily around the wheat bag and go to sleep.

I'll have to purchase new coats for both of them in readiness for next winter.
Good luck with the puppy....

Hi Angee,

Thanks for that.

I have a 5year old staffy called Oska who thinks he is human and whines alot when treated like a "dog" lol, he also sleeps in the bed !! He is a great dog who is 100% fantastic with my 18mth old baby girl.

Now I have another 8 week old staffy aswell but i'm determined for him to sleep outside to save on all the seperation anxiety & constant whining that is Oska.

Thanks again
Tash
