Default The Puppy's Rule of Twelve

Ever hear of this? It's a guide to socialization, and this is what the shelter where we got Zircon hands out to people who adopt puppies.
Quote:
By the time a puppy is 12 weeks old, it should have:
(If your puppy is over 12 weeks start right away with this socialization guide.)
Experienced 12 different surfaces: wood, woodchips, carpet, tile, cement, linoleum, grass, wet grass, dirt, mud, puddles, deep pea gravel, grates, uneven surfaces, on a table, on a chair, etc......
Played with 12 different objects: fuzzy toys, big & small balls, hard toys, funny sounding toys, wooden items, paper or cardboard items, milk jugs, metal items, car keys, etc.......

I haven't heard of it, but it's not a bad idea for pet owners. It gives them something concrete to work toward in socliazation.

I have read this one before - an excellent idea, people tend to vastly underestimate the need to socialise their puppies.

The trainer at puppy school here in the UK gave us something like this. It was a huge list of things they should have been exposed to by 16 weeks. I think we managed most of them....she's pretty well socialised, happily greets all dogs but also understands when to stay away. There aren't many things that scare her either, although we discovered at Christmas that she doesn't like those squealing balloons....

The one thing we failed to do properly was introduce her to proper grooming. See "7 month old Patterdale hates being groomed"!!

Oh Yea got that one long time ago. I make some of those in my pre kindergarden training of my puppies. It helps alot to get them started then I give a folder of info and a video I burned for all also. There is NO reason their puppy should not grow up and properly be socialized and friendly. Good idea, hope all reads it here will help them....

Great stuff. We've done a good majority of that list already and our baby is only about 8 weeks.
