Default New puppy

its been a long time since i had a puppy in my house so please bear with me

saphire (saphy for short) is always wanting to eat, i feed her dry mix in the morning and leave a bowl full all day out for her then feed her a wet food at 6pm 400gs puppy food and she just gobbles it down then trys to go to the other two dogs food as well. am i feeding her enough? she feels a little boney, and has tons of loose fur on her, but she also gets quite bloated after eating, she will also drink a bowl of lactol/goats milk till its all gone

also toilet training she goes for a wee in the garden and i praise her loads and give her a little treat but she just won't poo in the garden no matter how long i am out there with her and very often will poo as soon as she is back in the house. i have tried and tried to get her to go outside but its getting to be a losing battle. i have only had her 4 days but its getting frustrating when she just won't go outside.

shes also just starting to teeth so i have gotten her a few teething rings and toys to help her

she nips alot at me and the other two dogs, but she is getting a bit better with that.

she also thinks at everything we have is hers to eat as well including tea or coffee and trys to jump up and get everything even if we are standing and walking with the cup or plate

i think i just need to know i am doing things right and that most things will stop with time and paticence(sp?)

I would feed her on a schedule not free feed a puppy.

I have raised many and they will eat like some humans till stomach gets so large it is hard to fill. Is she worm free also? This is highly important.

Feed morning, mid afternoon and later afternoon. Then cut to two feedings to one year then can try one feeding. Wet food with warm water and stir to bring up the flavor.

U can give nylabones hard ones flavored to chew on, fill a kong with peanut butter or cheese, freeze over night and give it and also a RAW soup beef small but large enough she cannot swallow bone from grocery store, this will help her teettttt....

Potty exit same door always and go to same area and just wait, she has to go sooner or later. Pet n praise then. I hang bells up dogs love to ring mine, some long, some shorter, they do this for fun also.

well i think she is worm free, the people i got her off said they had wormed her but i still don't know, i know they said she didn't have any injections so am working that out for next week sometime when i can get a vets appointment she will also be chipped then too.

i have read on the puppy pouches that she might require 3 aday so thats 450g a day is that enough or should i feed more?

yep i always take her to toilet out the back door so she goes in the back garden like the other two and they are out at the same time

Things do get better with time and patience, so we can help you with that.
How old is little saphy? I would think you would be able to outwait her so that she gets into the habit of pooing in the garden. You might take a bit of her poo and put it out there to help the process along. If it smells like poo she is more likely to poo there.
And I also think that free feeding is not helping. Once you get Saphy on a schedule you can take a better guess and when she needs to poo.

If she nips at you, you can try yelping and withdrawing your hand, also ignore her completely for a minute or so. It will take weeks for her to catch on, but eventually she will learn that as she nips, all the fun stops instantly.

Good luck!

seems saphy hadsn't been wormed as today i have found tons of worms in her poo and she is very lathargic(sp?) so got quick vets appointment for her and taking her in for a check-up as well as worming treatment, poor little thing i can even feel her tummy rumbling and its slighty hard too

been to vets and i have been given a worming tablet and some vitamin paste, she said her tummy was distended and pot bellied but that is due to the worms. and she will be getting vacs in a couple of weeks so she can get over the worms first and gets a little better in herself

yeah she'll be getting plain rice and chicken for a few days to help her over having such a bad tummy. but she'll be fine and hopefully gain alot of weight. vet said she looks like a collie/german shepard cross tho she does have the brindle coat of a staff but no looks about her is pitbull she said. will really need to get a decent camera

Did the vet tell you to worm her again in a couple of weeks. Puppies should be wormed every 2 weeks until they are 12 weeks old, then every 3 months. You may want to worm the other dogs too.

the vet gave me a tablet and she said it lasted 1 month and to worm her again then. my other two dogs got wormed same time just to be on the safe side as they had been done just two weeks before. saphy seems to be alot better in her self now and is a regular puppy just having to chew everything lol but i just replace whatever she is chewing with one of her toys that she is allowed to chew
