Default Who's the Daddy?

Hi Everyone,

I'm new here, just found this site, its great.

We own a 4yr old GSD bitch and a 5 1/2month old GSD dog.

We had our bitch mated on 23rd of Oct, she gave birth late on boxing day night to just 2 pups (1boy & 1girl). They are both healthy and beautiful.

Problem is she is black and tan and her mate was black and tan but the pups are black with only bits of tan on their legs and under their tails. Are the pups likely to become black and tan? Is it possible they could have been fathered by our male pup who is a black sable at only 3 months old???

We have never seen him get on her but they totally have his colouring!!!

If anyone can give any advice to put my mind at rest that would be great.

Em

Their coloring will change as they grow. Sheplovr will be able to explain it for you in more detail.

It's extremely unlikely that a 3 month old pup could sire puppies.

Yes as applemom said, their colourings do change as they grow. Do you have any pics? They sound adorable!

I had a similar situation with 2 of my rabbits - The male ( 11 weeks old ) humped the Female ( 1 year old )
And I was horrified !!
My vet said that there probably wasn't any viable sperm in there at that age but then that was advice for rabbits
Maybe I am no help really
This is a great site
PICCY OF PUPS PLEASE

Hi,

Thanks for your replies.

This is the only pic I have uploaded of the pups at the min. This is at 3days old.

(Girl on the left, boy on the right)

Hopefully they will get lighter as they grow.

From what I've read on other websites dog mature sexually at an average age of 5 - 6 months, so I suppose it could be a slim possibility at 3 months.

If the pups stay black I think we'll have to DNA test just to be sure.

I'll post more pics soon.

Em.

I breed German Shepherds from Germany and this just dulls my brain, never heard of such a thing.............EVER!!

I have never even had a dog in heat before six months. The photos sure look like my pups, big and dark. Mine get darker by the way as I breed for pigment. They also look healthy.

Markings will come on strong as they age in days n weeks. Make sure they get good homes. They are the color and markings of Shepherds. Please keep me posted on them growing. They should open eyes at ten days or lil more, then start to hear. they should be wormed for round worms then.

Every two weeks worm them and at nine to ten weeks be ready for homes, should get first shots at six weeks old and checked by a vet.

Also, the small ears are shepherds for sure, geesss this may be a record of age in breeding?

Good luck and would love to watch them grow with photos.

Sheplovr Hi,

Thanks for your reply. They are def pure shepherds either way. It just the fact that they are so dark. I think I am worrying for nothing. They are starting to show slight hints of brown along their sides now.

Because Meg has only had the 2 pups we are going to keep one ourselves and a friend of ours wanted one anyway so he'll take the other one. I know our friend will take good care of it for life, they have had a shepherd from being a pup and he's getting on 13yrs now.

I'll keep taking pics and keep you all updated.

Thanks Again,

Em.

Geess mine are born all black, yours are getting markings very young, so they just may lighten up very early. I like mine to stay dark, the darker the better for me. Look at my last pup on then and now dogs thread on here lately. I love deep dark pigment. Hate it when they fade out.

Nice big pups like mine also. I usually have litters of nine or more, but -07 was a bad year for me. You do not need to DNA those pups unless you have two males and are unsure of the dad. Then both dads must be DNA also, AKC charges fifty dollars each as both of my boys are done.

Very nice pups and markings will be great by looks of it. Make sure they are getting plenty of milk, as the mom to my one girl dried up at two weeks. I have been feeding her since, was born Nov 24.
