Question Brushing teeth?

Hi, Guys,
One more thing I need to learn today.

When should I start brushing Bang-gu's teeth? 8 weeks old is enough to start???

At 8 weeks, I'd just be getting him used to the brush in his mouth. Moisten the bristles & just work your way around his mouth. After he's used to it & a little bigger, add a little doggy toothpaste & start actually brushing with the paste. I'd give him another few weeks before getting serious about brushing with the toothpaste but it is never too early to start getting him used to the idea.

That's what it is all about! You've come to the right place. There are lots of very helpful people here who are always willing to jump in to help us all become the best dog owners we can be.

Being my pups at 8 weeks are so big they can be started, but your is a smaller breed. Never get or use human tooth paste it can make a dog ill. Only made for dogs use with the brush made for dogs also.

Dentabones & other bones really do help with teeth cleaning but I think it is better practice to also brush the teeth of your dogs. Starting with a puppy, it should be easy to maintain a program of keeping those pearly whites white.

Growing up there was no such thing as cleaning pet's teeth. I've only heard of it since having my 14 1/2 y/o border collie. Although I did buy doggy toothbush & paste & attempt to clean her teeth many years ago, I have relied on raw meaty bones to clean her teeth. The vet said for her age her teeth are quite good. After all its what nature intended for dogs to eat & for thousands of years thats all they had to eat, & no toothbrushes. Google RMB for info. If your pup has bones & really spends time chewing them, it should be ok.

Can you buy the toothpaste & brush at the vets? I wanted to try to clean Colbi's teeth. We have lots of teeth-cleaning toys for her, but I thought I should try and brush them anyway.

You can get a toothbrush & toothpaste for dogs at most pet stores.
