Question My puppy eats her poo!

Hi, guys,
My puppy, Bang gu, eats her own poo!!!. We try to move her from it immediately. I don't know, but may be she thinks it's food! How can we stop her doing it or will it stop when she grows up a bit more. She's only 8 weeks old.

Finally, I ordered a air purifier and Petal cleanse! I hope this works, so my hubby can breath without rattling noise from his chest. Also, we can keep our 'Bang gu'

Just keep picking it up soon as she goes. You can get from vet or in dog catalogs stuff to put in food they do not taste but it makes a bad taste in the fecal matter, it stops them just a bad habit some get into young usually. I would not scold the dog or pup as they usually quit with discouraging them with things u can buy for them to eat. It makes a really bad taste in poo that they quit a bad habit like we bite our finger nails, some smoke, some twist their hair, we have bad habits too. She will quit, look in some books, online drsfostersmith.com has a brand named: Distaste to give in dog food when feeding.

lydiaplant this has got to be one of the really gross things about having dogs. I'll never understand deep down why they do it! Sometimes adding special powders to the diet will make it taste so bad that they stop. They are sold in pet supply stores. Or some people use meat tenderizer. If you want to see a bit more info there is an old thread on it.

Good luck!

Hello and welcome to the forum. Great to have you with us. Looks like you've been given good advice so I'll just give my thumbs up to that & wish you luck in solving the problem. It's frustrating but not at all uncommon.

My Vet told me to put a bit of Pineapple juice with my dogs dinner..........they don't mind it in their dinner, but don't like eating it with the poo. I have only just started doing it with my Lab.....Halle........& it seems to be working

It is truly disgusting. I have never understood why dogs can have such a fine sense of smell and then do things like that. Do let us know how you get on.

I gave Bang gu some of pineapple juice with her food, as Chrisg recommended. It seems working. Bang gu didn't touch her poo for the first time and walked away!!!!!!

My Girl used to do that. I tried everything to cure it and the only thing that did was I switched to raw feeding. She stopped immediately.

You see the kibble doesn't fully digest and some of the nutrients end back up in the poop. The dogs can smell it and they eat it.

Colbi used to do that as well when she was a puppy. One way to stop it is to stay outside with her while she is doing her business and pick it up right away.
