Default Help with puppy whining when left alone.

I got a puppy three weeks ago (she's 11 weeks now) and I'm having trouble with her when me and my boyfriend leave home. She whines for about 15 minutes and whenever she thinks she hears someone. She also knocks over her water and tears her puppy pad. She's confined in a small room that's about 5x5 because right now we have to be away from home for about 7 hours a day so it wouldn't be fair to crate her. Any tips on how to get her to be less destructive? We don't make a fuss when we leave and come back too, and it's getting to be a bit frustrating.

Oh honey she is lonely, this is a long time to leave her so young. Play a radio and burn a small light if it gets dark. Get a real flat dish or bowel they cannot upset for her water. Keep some toys, get a KONG has holes on each side a big one, you would get a small Kong for her now, fill with cheese or peanut butter, freeze over night, she will be busy for a time.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Great to have you with us.

Good advice above! Good luck with your new pup. I hope you'll post some pics. We'd love to see your new baby.

I suggest putting her in the room along with bones/ treats to keep her busy while you are gone. Also, you might want to put chew toys etc in there. Maybe some soft music? It may seem dumb but it really helps keep dogs calm!

Poor little thing is lonely. you shouldn't have got a dog if your going to leave it for such a long time, especially when its a pup...Does it have toys and things to do? Poor little darling.

Hi stepahamelon and welcome to the forum!
It's rough for a little puppy like that to go from being with her littermates and mom to being alone, so definitely loneliness is a problem. And 7 hours is a long time for her to be alone, especially if she is not getting potty break. Is there any way you could get a friend to let her out after 3 hours do poo and pee outside?
Anyway, make it as easy for her as possible by giving ehr pletny of tyos and leaving the radio (or even the TV on) that will help.
Good luck!
PS Very cute picture of her!

She does get to go potty because she has puppy pads in there. She has lots of safe toys in there to play with as well. My boyfriend is out of town for the week, which is why she's alone for so long.

Do you have a doggie day care or boarding facility near you? Other idea would be to get up earlier and give her some extra exercise to wear her out maybe she'll sleep more.....
