Default Unhealthy/healthy travel a lot with a pup?!

Ok, this spring as it looks like now I will have an added rottie to the family. Pup 8 weeks. If things goes as it is planned that is.

Lateron me and a friend will be hitting the road for at least 6 month and travel the states, There will be some backpacking too and so on.

I will crate train the puppy so it's "home/den" is always with it and of course Ill try to bring the puppy with me in different places around the states (a lot of restaurants outdoors pateo often accept dogs if asked politely) and so on just like I have with Tasha..

I can't see no harm in this since the puppy will be with us at almost all times, cept for moments when there will be doggie sitters and so on for a few hours here and there for an ex museum visit or steep climb etc.

Is there any reserach that that much travel would be bad for a pup as long as it gets it's food and rest properly?!

Thoughts and ideas are welcome.. I like the idea myself cause there will be so many socialisation oppurtunities and that is what made Tasha the dog she is. But I might also be not thinking of soemthing else and maybe it would be better to wait another year (wich I really don't want too) Moo..

but again, thoughts and ideas..

I can't think of a single reason why someone that's thoroughly aware of a dog's needs shouldn't travel with a pup.

Ours traveled everywhere we went from the moment their vaccinations were up to date. The only inconvienence we encountered was a few more stops along the way for potty and exercise/play times. I'd say; go for it!

I agree with Applesmom. As long as you're taking heed of the pup's needs for rest & sleep, it sounds like a great adventure for a new pup. I wouldn't hesitate.

I agree. With enough potty breaks and exercise/stretching time, the pup will be fine!

It really does sound like a great adventure (as Katz said) I would love to be able to travel like that with my dogs! As long as you do take a bit of extra time to deal with your pups needs then it doesn't seem like a bad idea at all. Hope you enjoy it

Wow! That sounds like quite an adventure! I'm sure you will ALL have a wonderful time. As long as you keep an eye on your adorable puppy, (which, by the sound of things, you won't need any reminding doing!) I'm sure it will love its exciting lifestyle! Have fun!

tthanks guys..

I am just thinking of being on the road a lot will be stressy, hence I am planing on crate for comfy and saftey zone.

We are already planing on cooling matts and extra airconditioner in the back for the doggies so even during hot summers the dogs can be cool at all times. Ther eis a lot of planing going on and a lot to think of. Like putting up a route a head of time and plan at least two weeks ahead in detail this to make the dogs and our lifes as good as possible.

I am just a chicken mommy and rather ask one time extra cause sometimes you miss things due to think too much..

So Thanks for the support..

Check out the store at cleanrun.com. it's an agility store, but it's got tons of cool travel stuff, since we agility folk travel all over the country with our dogs going to shows. There may be some neat gear you'd like to get for your pup. Besides a crate, you might want to get an ex-pen so the pup can have some off leash exercise time on your travels as well.

Have fun!! Let us know what you thought of where you went.

I think that is nice of you and a Rotty is a smart pup. Crating is great, take a harnass to wear for safety, leash for take outs Potty. Towels, Water bowel, food and dish, first aid kit. Stop n play a tad bit and it will learn to love riding long as you give it a break. Be safe and enjoy. Love the av by the way.

It certainly sounds like you have everything planned out wonderfully! I think this is going to be a very lucky dog with a very lucky owner.
